BRM Reviews the 7/19/2012 Impact

Post by Big Red Machine » Jul 20th, '12, 00:25

JAMES STORM PROMO-okay

KURT ANGLE GOT BEATEN UP BY ACES & EIGHTS- yeah, I think everyone saw this coming. But why did the camera-man just stand there, rather than call for help?

BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: Samoa Joe vs. “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero- 3/10
Way too short

BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES: Jeff Hardy vs. Robbie E. (w/Robbie T)- 3.25/10

EY & ODB BACKSTAGE- not this crap again

KAZ & DANIELS BACKSTAGE- They don’t know what type of proof Claire has? My assumption would that it is a paternity test of some sort. This segment was totally unnecessary and slightly stupid.

ACES & EIGHTS ATTACK THE GUT-CHECK GUY- IS THERE NO SECURITY AT ALL IN THIS BUILDING? You would think that after last week’s attacks, they would have hired some security. And even if there is no security… none of the babyfaces are going to come out and help this poor kid?

Tenay tells us that there is no authority figure here tonight. WTF? Hogan knew that both he and Sting weren’t going to be there, but didn’t appoint anyone to make decisions? This is the sort of thing that doesn’t make any sense from a real-world business point of view.

BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: Mr. Anderson vs. AJ Styles- 6.25/10

CLAIRE HAS PICTURES- So the morning after, Claire decided to take pictures of herself and AJ in bed… knowing that AJ is married. That is a really dickish thing to do someone who is helping you through recovering form your drug addiction. And she thinks that AJ is father, but has never told him? What a bitch! And just because they slept together doesn’t prove that AJ is the father.
BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: Rob Van Dam vs. Christopher Daniels- 5/10

AUSTIN ARIES PROMO- LOVED IT!

BROOKE HOGAN GIVES US AN UPDATE ON HULK’S CONDITION- a nice little touch.

JOSEPH PARK & GARRETT BISCHOFF BACKSTAGE- good

BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: Bully Ray vs. Magnus- 4/10

CHAVO HYPE PACKAGE- as far as video-packages go, this was kind of dull.

BOBBY ROODE vs. AUSTIN ARIES- 6.5/10
During this match, a very loud chant of “we want” something broke out, but I couldn’t make out what it was.
The match ends when both guys get attacked by Nexus Aces & Eights.

Overall, a boring episode of Impact. I really don’t like the way they have intermixed the BFG Series and Open Fight Night. It forces six matches into one show, which means that they all get less time, and it pretty much events anyone else from taking advantage of the Open Fight Night gimmick. Fox example, tonight, the only matches were BFG Series matches and Aries vs. Roode. No Knockouts, no X-Division, no tag team matches, not even the monthly title defense were were promised, or Devon's weekly TV Title defense… just seven straight singles matches between male heavyweights.

STUPID ANNOUNCER QUOTES:
1. Tenay thought that during the Pope vs. Joe match was a great time to tell people to find out who TNA’s newest signing was by going to Dixie’s Twitter “right now.”
Hey, Tenay, why don’t we encourage people to check their phones during commercials so that “right now” they can WATCH THE SHOW.

this was his gut check test. react to surprise attacks against a group of unknown individuals. he failed. But to be honest, if I was a babyface, i wouldn't have gone out there to try and help him, i don't know him

I honestly heard "We Want T Shirts" but i could be wrong. and by god i hope i'm wrong.

personally i liked the show. I agree that they had way to many matches and so they were short, but i liked the use of OFN with the BFG series. I would have allowed Sam Shaw to have his match just to showcase a little X Division, but other than that I'm ok with skipping all the rest. I even thought that there were no KOs tonight since Brooke wasn't there either.

the only real problem i had is that there were waay to many attacks by As & 8s for not having a little hint on why they're there. No unmasking, no talking, nothing. I have a feeling that they'll wait until HardCore Justice to unmask, that's waay to far from last night.

It's just that, every time we have seen something like this, the whole lockerroom usually empties out to chase these guys away. In TNA, that hasn't happened at all. It makes it feel like it's not the happy family they always tell us it is. Also, I think that it gets over how much everyone doesn't want these guys around if the babyfaces and heels come together to chase them off.

I, too, thought I heard "WE WANT T-SHIRTS," but I dismissed it because it really didn't make too much sense.
Just because Brooke isn't there, the women can't wrestle? They have been perfectly fine without a person in charge before.
I was actually fine with their being multiple Aces & Eights attacks. I thought that was good. That was the angle of this show. These guys are running wild. I just didn't like that no one even tried to fight them off.

I actually agree with you, during the whole show it did come to mind, why isn't anyone standing up to them, even Storm or Aries that they actually mentioned them in their promos.

It's not that they can't wrestle without Brooke there, but if Brooke wasn't there, then it's understandable that match wasn't booked.

i just felt like i needed to know more about A&8s, but it worked nonetheless. i'm not missing next thursday's Impact.

And this was is what bothers me a lot about TNA. The way things are handled, it seems like there is zero kayfabe forethought put into things, and that TNA as an entity only exists during the two hours a week it is on the air. If all of the authority figures weren't going to be there and they knew it in advance (which they did), then it is just plain common sense that you should appoint someone to be in charge for the night.
Or look at Brooke. She wanted to be with her father while he was recovering from surgery. That's fine... but why can't she make a match BEFORE THE SHOW?

On this point, I am actually slightly annoyed at TNA. This was why I tuned in this week: to hopefully learn more about them. It didn't happen, and the way it didn't happen really makes me not expect that to change any time soon.

My only problems with the Ace's and Eight's attacks is simply the fact that the attacks themselves don't look vicious enough. They just look very safe and almost comical. Like I don't believe these guys are actually hurt after they're done.

It looks like a vicious beatodwn to me. Not something that would hospitalize someone who is in good health, but certainly something that would hurt a lot.

I said someone "in good health." Hulk has had numerous back surgery's in the past few years.

Not to me. It just looks like a lot of soft, very safe kicking and stomping, with a few punches in there. Compare these beatdowns to the Nexus beatdowns of a few years ago. Then tell me they look vicious.

They look different. The Nexus beatdowns were a calculated assault of wrestling moves. This is a bunch of thugs just stomping somebody down. It looks "safe" in that it isn't dangerous the way a head-drop is, but I certainly wouldn't say it doesn't look vicious.
