BRM Reviews PWG Life During Wartime

Post by Big Red Machine » Jun 19th, '12, 23:03

PWG Life During Wartime (6/8/2008)- Reseda, CA

OPENING SEGMENT- it was what it was. It explained the card changes and set up the tag team title match.

BRANDON BONHAM vs. ARIK CANNON- 6/10

MIKEY NICHOLS & CHARLES MERCURY vs. HOOK BOMBERRY & TJ PERKINS- 5.5/10

PHOENIX STAR vs. CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI- 5/10

BUTCHER’S RULES MATCH: Necro Buthcer vs. Kikutaro- 4.75/10
An eh comedy match. The stuff that was comedy great, but the stuff that wasn’t comedy dragged.

KAZMA & MIYAWAKI & vs. THE YOUNG BUCKS vs. THE DYNASTY (Joey Ryan & Scott Lost)- 7/10
Stopped feeling like a match and started feeling like just a bunch of spots.

CHRIS BOSH vs. SCORPIO SKY- a PERFECT 10/10
AMAZING storytelling here with Sky working over Bosh’s neck and Bosh just dropping Scorpio on his head. Tons of emotion in this match, too, and an extremely hot crowd.

PWG WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Roderick Strong & El Generico(c) vs. The Age of the Fall (Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black)- 7.25/10

NO TIME LIMIT STEEL CAGE GUERRILLA WARFARE MATCH FOR THE PWG WORLD TITLE: Human Tornado(c) vs. Chris Hero (w/Candace LeRae)- 8/10
I really didn’t like the overbooking with Necro and Claudio (apparently if you knock out a ref and take his shirt you become an official referee?) or the way they did the stuff with Candace. After everything she had been through with Tornado, I just can’t buy Candace making out with him, even if it was to set him up for a double cross and to stop him from beating on Hero. I think it would have been better to have her try to protect Hero and have Tornado grab her by the hair, pimp-slap her and get ready to hit her with the Cancun Tornado, then have Candace get up and low blow him, hit him with the Super DND, then go into the Hero’s Welcome and the finish. Still, an awesome blow-off to an outstanding feud.

CHRIS HERO PROMO- pretty good.

Overall, an awesome show from PWG with an awesome main event and a PERFECT retirement match. Definitely recommended.

I actually own a real DVD copy of this show (I know, I actually bought something!). The Hero/Tornado feud is one of my favorite feuds of all time (not just PWG, but anywhere) and the blowoff was just perfect for me.

Plus, this is the infamous show with Charles Mercury's dreaded BOTTOM ROPE KNEE DROP!

Definitely. Hero isn't the type of guy you generally think of as a good babyface since he has spent so long as a heel in CZW and ROH, but he is a great babyface in that feud.

What did you feel about Chris Bosh vs. Scott Lost?

Okay I was like what? They were a tag team! Lol. That match was really really, REALLY good. I dunno if I'd give it a 10/10 but really damn close.

I will admit that it was a "weak" 10/10 (so it's not as good as Cena vs. Punk, but still 10/10, IMO- like Hero vs. Eddie), but still a legit 10, IMO. I just loved the storytelling and the selling and everything.
