BRM Reviews the 2/18/2012 ROH

OPENING SEGMENT- okay. It all made sense and everything, but just wasn’t particularly good. One thing that drives me nuts, though, is that if Haas doesn’t trust Jay not to interfere, why would he want him handcuffed to the ringpost… where he could easily reach into the ring and trip him up? If you are going to go to far as to insist that he be handcuffed to something… why not insist that he be handcuffed to a radiator backstage, well away from the ring?

KEVIN STEEN vs. “RIGHT LEG” ANDY RIDGE- no rating. Great segment.

VEDA SCOTT INTERVIEWS DAVEY RICHARDS AND KYLE O’REILLY- Did Davey and Kyle just cut a heel promo? It really sounded like that.

ADAM COLE & EDDIE EDWARDS vs. MATT TAVEN & MIKE MONDO- 5/10… Bad segment. Yes, this was a 5/10… but it shouldn’t have been. There was no reason in hell for this to go as long as it did. Taven and Mondo are jobbers. Just last week the announcers were talking about how Mondo needed wins to even stay on the roster… and it takes Adam Cole and Eddie Edwards- the guys you are building up for the main event of your next PPV- more than five minutes to beat them… and they got the win right after a miscommunication between Taven and Mondo? Really? And the announcers focused more on that than on Cole & Eddie. This is just plain horrible booking.

HOUSE OF TRUTH PROMO- Apparently Truth Martini’s checks wouldn’t go through when the Briscoes tried to cash them. GOOD! As Truth pointed out, Roddy & Elgin won the match, therefore the money should belong to them! The check that the Briscoes are trying to cash is STOLEN MONEY! Why are we supposed to side with the Briscoes?

YOUNG BUCKS PROMO- good

JAY LETHAL PROMO- decent… until he said that Ciampa’s undefeated streak (mostly of tin-can challengers) is more important than either the TV Title or the ROH World Title.

TOMASSO CIAMPA PROMO- good

MIKE BENNETT PROMO- good, but the Maria thing was dumb. It just entirely goes against Lance’s character.

CHARLIE HAAS vs. MARK BRISCOE (w/Jay Briscoe)- No rating. Bad segment. This is RING OF HONOR… and we get a main event that went LESS THAN SIX MINUTES? Then Charlie jumps Mark from behind and hits him with a chair… then pays his and Shelton’s fines, assumedly un-suspending them. This got no heat at all.

Overall, a crappy episode of ROH, but at least it tried to hype the PPV.

STUPID ANNOUNCER QUOTES:
1. Kevin Kelly (about Adam Cole’s finisher)- “ WHAT IS THAT?!”- It’s a GERMAN SUPLEX! If you can’t recognize a German Suplex, you should not be allowed within thirty feet of an announcer’s table.

2. Kevin Kelly (about Adam Cole’s finisher)- “I’ve got to find out what that move is called”- Never mind the fact that you should know a German Suplex when you see one, Nigel JUST SAID IT!
