BRM Reviews the 2/20/2012 Raw

OPENING SEGMENT- Not sure if I like this or not. I like the concept of something happening before the show and us not seeing it, but at the same time it feels a little awkward. I did enjoy the segment, though.

SHEAMUS vs. MARK HENRY- 5/10.
This should have ten more minutes. Henry should not be losing this quickly.

TEDDY LONG & JOHNNY ACE BACKSTAGE- okay. Teddy’s insults are horrible. If he winds up on both shows, it will be a travesty.

R-TRUTH & KOFI KINGSTON vs. EPICO & PRIMO (w/Rosa Mendes)- 3.5/10.
The tag champs should not be losing this quickly.

CHRIS JERICHO PROMO- good

DAVID OTUNGA (w/John Laurinaitus) vs. EZEKIEL JACKSON (w/Teddy Long)- 3/10… but I actually popped when Otunga won. That is how much I have been enjoying both him and Johnny Ace, as compared to Teddy Long and Ezekiel Jackson. When I look at Jackson now, all I can see is the guy who jobbed to Jobber Mahal.

TRIPLE H & UNDERTAKER SEGMENT- eh. It felt to me like Hunter gave in WAY too quickly. We should have had an angle similar to the one going into Wrestlemania 18 between Flair and Taker, with Hunter saying he doesn’t want the match, and Taker going around beating up his friends and family until he agrees. Then if you really want to do a Hell In A Cell match, you can have Taker demand that it be a Hell In A Cell, so the people he has jumped in trying to get Triple H to agree to the match (Kliq members, Batista, Justin Credible) , don’t try to interfere in the match.
What we got here felt way too much like the build-up to the Ladder War between the Briscoes and The All Night Express, where ROH management said (paraphrasing) “we will never let another Ladder War happen. They are too dangerous!” and both teams said (more paraphrasing) “but we really want it!” and ROH management just gave in. This needed a true, epic build up.
DANIEL BRYAN vs. SANTINO MARELLA- no rating… but what was the point of that? We know Dragon can make Santino tap. He did it last night. Why have Santino lose so quickly? Santino is wrestling later tonight, anyway, so why have him in this match?

KELLY KELLY & AKSANA vs. THE BELLA TWINS- DUD! This served no purpose whatsoever, and went about a minute.

JOHN CENA PROMO- We have an early frontrunner for Promo Of The Year. AMAZING promo.

BATTLE ROYAL TO DETERMINE WHO WILL CHALLENGE FOR THE WWE TITLE AT WRESTLEMANIA 28- 7/10.

Overall, this episode of Raw was pretty horrendous in the ring, but the things that build up towards Mania were very good. The random matches were all crap.

apparently the Divas match was cut short bc of the Taker/HHH promo. Though that's no major loss, this is why I didn't want HHH v. Taker again; they use up WAAAY too much time!

I don't buy that at all. How much more time than that do Divas matches normally get (especially pointless ones involving the Bella Twins)?
