BRM Reviews the 1/17/2020 205 Live

Your commentary team for 205 Live is now John Quasto and Mansoor. They were extremely WWE-generic.

ARIYA DAIVARI vs. TYLER BREEZE- 6.5/10
Another fine win for Breeze. I really hope his presence here is to build him up for a Cruiserweight Title match.

JACK GALLAGHER’S LIST OF DEMANDS THAT MUST BE MET BEFORE HE RETURNS TO 205 LIVE- bad
Basically, they made this into a joke, with bowl of brown M&Ms reference and demanding to be recognized as a former champion of Xavier Woods’ YouTube video game show. This was frustrating both because it was stupid and because it was so out of character for Gallagher. Also, I’m sure that bringing up the idea of Mania in England is only going to get people annoyed because they know it won’t happen.

LIO RUSH vs. SUNIL SINGH (w/Samir Singh)- 2.5/10
Samir creates a distraction to set up the heat. Lio comes back and gets the win. Predictable, and not particularly exciting or interesting, either. The Singh Brothers tried Twin Magic and failed because their hair and facial hair is completely different, which makes them look like idiots for even trying it.

ISAIAH “SWERVE” SCOTT vs. RAUL MENDOZA- 7.75/10
Mansour tried to tell me that Angel Garza is arrogant because he thinks he’s the best wrestler in the division and maybe even the company. Doesn’t basically everyone think they’re the best? And at least in Garza’s case it’s defensible because he has a big shiny championship belt that tells him that he’s the best in the division.
The match itself was great action, but once again with a predictable finish, and what’s worse is that while mechanically the right thing to do is to build Swerve up for his Cruiserweight Title shot at Worlds Collide, I don’t for a second think that he’ll win the title, so this win doesn’t feel like any sort of important moment for him, either. Throw in the fact that Mendoza has been going nowhere forever, and it feels like they put an undercard guy in the main event just to give a bigger star the win. Breeze vs. Daivari felt a lot more compelling to me as a main event.

This was an okay show from 205 Live. This show has been frustratingly stripped down in such a short span of time. NXT has done so little with the title that moving it to NXT feels like a huge mistake now, as this show feels like it’s one step away from being Main Event or Superstars, with the occasional presence of a midcarder being the only star-power we get anymore and storylines being few and far between. Raw and SD doing sh*t with Gulak, Cedric, Mustafa Ali, Kalisto, Gran Metalik, Lincé Dorado, Tozawa, etc., so can’t we just have them back on 205 Live, doing something important?
