Jim Ross announced on his podcast that he is leaving the WWE at the end of the month.
Ross said on the podcast that he recently spoke to Vince McMahon, mutually agreed to part ways, noting that he would not be part of the WWE after his contract expires at the end of the month.
“I still want to play the game, I still want to stay busy,” he said on the podcast. “I will not be returning to WWE after the 29th of March.”
He said he will be moving on in a positive way and has no regrets about his run in the WWE, saying that his smartest move was joining in the WWE in 1993. He also said that he didn’t think he would be out of work long.
Ross has been in and out of the company over the last several decades, but most recently re-signed with the company in 2017, returning at WrestleMania 33 to commentate on the No Holds Barred match between Roman Reigns and the Undertaker. He also was a part of last year’s WrestleMania calling the Andre the Giant Battle Royal, and called the first Mae Young Classic tournament in 2017.
His last appearance on WWE television was as a part of a guest panel prior to the Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia last April.

AEW would be ideal. Good with talent, well respected, announcer if necessary, light work schedule.

i'd definitely would make the offer as a consultant, but i'm sour on his commentary right now

I kinda am too, which is unfortunate since he was basically the voice of wrestling for me growing up.

Yeah, this isn't 1997...come on now.
When they come, they'll come at what you love.

Only if he manages to keep his mouth shut and not bitch about any psychology issues that come up. I don't like them, either, but bringing the match's flaws to the viewers' attention is the opposite of what an announcer is supposed to do.

it's not about age, he'd still be the best commentary on all of WWE, it's more to him calling action like New Japan that i'm not high on

Agreed, but at this point if I was in charge of AEW, I’d want JR, a man who spent many years negotiating with talent and bringing talent in, behind my scenes to help build a roster and maintain talent relations. That’s where I’d put him. I wouldn’t place him on commentary.Big Red Machine wrote: ↑Mar 7th, '19, 11:23Only if he manages to keep his mouth shut and not bitch about any psychology issues that come up. even with Talent relations, i don't know if I'd want him there. Granted I haven't listened to his podcast in forever, but I don't know if he really understands and connects with some of the talent that AEW is bringing in like Jungle Boy.XIV wrote: ↑Mar 7th, '19, 15:29

Maybe not, but that’s where you would put him as part of a team.cero2k wrote: ↑Mar 7th, '19, 16:09even with Talent relations, i don't know if I'd want him there.
