BLADE vs. KELLY vs. NORTH vs. KATOSHISAN- 5/10. Had some action, but didn't feel like it ever made it out of second gear. Would have been six, but a bunch of stuff made little to no sense.
Blade is eliminated in 5 minutes, after barely taking any offense at all. Okay. I guess there is some inversely proportional relationship between mysteriousness and toughness
I'm confused as to why North himself wanting to do something "the right way" made him break up somoene else's perfectly legal pin. If anything, shouldn't he have broken up Kelly's pin on Blade, rather than this one? And he pinned Katoshisan after a move that not only asn't his finsiher, but wasn't even in his listed move set?
RIGGS & STERLING vs. GRIDIRON GREATS- 5/10. Good psychology, but not much in the way of action, and very short. I do really like the Greats' gimmick, though.
SOPHIE IRVINE vs. MATT DRIVER- 6/10. Good match, great psychology... awkward finish. DId it just plain not occur to Sophie to leave the ring to break the count? To chase after him?
HEATHER GILCHREST vs. SHANNON LAYTON- 5.5/10 Too short. Isn't this supposed to be a PPV?
Why did Heather, the babyface, jump the heel from behind? I mean, she is a babyface, right? Either that, or an awkward heel going after another heel for a babyface reason. Usually when that happens, someone becomes the babyface. And there is no way in hell NNTK can be the babyface, so... what is it with Heather?
BEAUTIFULLY DANGEROUS vs. THE HARDKORE PSYCHOS- 7.5/10 A very good match, but with a bad finish, for the same reason as Irvine vs. Driver. This just makes Everlast's comment about women being "the superior race" (women are a GENDER, not a race, BTW) laughable, as none of them seem to have the mental capacity to figure out how to leave a wrestling ring.
And that brings me to another point: The commentary. It is bad. Really bad. It really takes away from the matches. Most of the time all the commentary does is try and be funny (and utterly failing) in the middle of a serious wrestling match.
Anyway...
BCW WORLD TITLE TITLE TOURNAMNET FINALS: Hardy vs. Salem- 8/10 Loved it! Great psychology, great babyface comeback, and a great description of the atmosphere.
BCW WORLD TITLE MATCH: Hardy(c) vs. NNTK- 5/10. I would have given this a no rating and called it a perfect segment... but the finish ruined it. Daivs Hardy is your top babyface. He has already wrestled one brutal match tonight, and the big bad heel is now coming for him, having secure a title shot which Hardy is totally unprepared for via back-room conniving. HE SHOULD WIN CLEANLY! And having Heather and Beautifully Dangerous do it... uch. This was just BAD.
First of all, the babydace goes to the back, so he doesn't get the chance to celebrate with the fans.
Heather cuts a promo that is, at times needlessly and obnociously ambiguous. Some stuff about "heretics" and "powers people don't understand" Cliched sci-fi/fantasy stuff. And the Heather has the gaul to call herself an "honorable woman"- SHE JUST HELPED SOMEONE CHEAT! TO WIN A TITLE, NO LESS!
These women were just a TERRIBLE choice to for this spot. Beautifully Dangerous have not had any contact with NNTK at all! So why do they hate him so? If the point of this was that EVERYONE wanted NNTK out of the company, then THE WHOLE ROSTER should have come out. And Heather's speech (and her whole role in this, really) absolutely should have been given to EC. She just makes so much moe sense in this role. If the Prophecy didn't want to help NNTK to anymore... why come out in the first place? Just to leave him? Is it that important to throw in that extra swerve? Having them not respond to his call for help, or having them come out on the stage and have Salem cut his promo would have accomplished the same thing. And if you were going to have them come out, THEY should have been the ones to beat NNTK DOWN! Not some random group, most of whom have never interacted with him before!
Anyway, they all abandon him, aside from Shannon, who only abandons him after being threatened. This just makes her a coward or self interested (in the negative way, not the positive way like the other Prophecy members), rather than having an issue with NNTK's leadership style (which was the point of this whole thing).
Then, like the "honorable" woman she claims to be, Heather has her group beat NNTK up 5-on-1. Because that is the honorable thing to do. Right.
Overall, this show was eh. Okay wrestling with the exception of two matches, and a lot of bad finishes, and some terrible booking at the end (and yes, I am well aware of the backstage stuff that was going on, and my review of the segment was keeping that in mind). Davis vs. Salem was awesome, though, and everyone should read it.
As for the all-female stable-I won't say anything about this because I have some knowledge about it that others don't. I will say that I have given my thoughts on it and its diretion to the booker, and if he tells me it is okay, I will share those thoughts then.
And so I'm not accuse dof just being critical, here is how I would have done it (I just watched ROH End Of An Age, so I have some experience with extremely disappointing send-offs to top heels). Have Davis win cleanly. Then have a group of the people that he has wronged come out. Have him call out the Prophecy, but have them join in the group of people he has wronged, with Slaem cuttig his promo. Have someone from the group (Heather is fine) give him the same ultimatum... and have him leave. This leaves the door open for him to come back at some point int he fututre, either with an army, or in an "I've reformed" angle. Then we get a celebration in the ring wiht the babyfaces. Have Salem shake Davis' hand, and have everyone carry Daivs out on their shoulders. Heel gone, justice served, promotion saved, and top babyface as the the triumphant champion who overcame overwhelming odds to win the title.
