Is it bad that my immediate reaction to the announcement of the ladder match wasn't "Oh wow! It's NJPW's first ladder match in forever!" but rather "Ah. They're probably doing this so Tanahashi doesn't have to actually get pinned?"

I think that's a consequence of promotions that try WAY too hard to protect certain people. I remember similar reactions to Cena matches, to Jay Briscoe during his streak, and I started feeling the same way about EC III's streak recently.

I'm kind of amazed that they're just doing a ladder match because the champion wants to have one with Tanahashi for some reason (which can't possibly be good for Tanahashi's help). Meanwhile, Naito has spent the past year either walking out of matches or having guys interfere for him, which should naturally build up to a cage match, but they aren't doing one.
