....was accidentally declared the NWA World Champion in 1979. After a tag team match, which involved Dibiase pinning then champion Harley Race in Saint Louis, the ring announcer, who was so excited about the match declared "Your winner and NEW NWA World Champion, Ted Dibiase!" The television announcer had to cover for him and hastily inform the fans that this was not a title bout. However, this would serve as amazing promo fodder for the next big Saint Louis wrestling match, Ted Dibiase vs Harley Race at another arena in town.
