Jim Duggan Diagnosed with Cancer, Ultimo Dragon Injury Update, Great Kabuki News

Both Jim Duggan and Ultimo Dragon have their careers in jeopardy due to illness and injury respectively, while in an event that was a planned career finale, the Great Kabuki had his retirement ceremony on 9/7 at Tokyo Korakuen Hall.

Duggan, 45, was diagnosed with cancer this past week and will have one of his kidneys removed in an operation scheduled for 9/4. There have been athletes in other sports that have performed at the major league level with one kidney and people who have excelled after recovering from cancer, although one would think between Duggan's age, the recuperation time, and the inherent risks of performing in pro wrestling that this certainly threatens to finish his career.

Dragon, 31, has suffered an infection and several other complications coming out of his recent elbow surgery and was given an opinion this past week from a doctor in Japan that he may not be able to ever return to the ring and that at a minimum he'll be out of action for another six months. The surgery was believed to be somewhat routine and only require about one month of down time.

Kabuki, 50, had a week-long final tour for IWA Japan, culminating in his retirement show on 9/7 at Korakuen Hall in which he wrestled three matches just one day before his 50th birthday.
