BRM Reviews the 8/12/2015 Impact (TNA vs. GFW)

Post by Big Red Machine » Aug 13th, '15, 00:07

So Dixie gives Jeff one night to run the company, and he immediately books a bunch of inter-promotional matches? Is she really too dumb to figure out that he is just using her to get his TV-less company some exposure?

JEFF JARRETT RUNS DOWN THE CARD- yeah… this just feels like a bunch of TNA matches with the exception of the tag match.

EY CONFRONTS JEFF JARRETT- EY showed up and was terrible. It was either lame crap like “I don’t care about the fans. I only care about me” or dumb crap like claiming to be the “King of the World” or comparing himself to G-d. He demands a match against Jeff Jarrett for the King of the Mountain Title even though it was already said that there would be King of the Mountain Match for the King of the Mountain Title.
HAHAHAHAHAHAH! Jarrett declared GFW to be the best wrestling in the world. As a babyface. On TNA TV! I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY ACTUALLY LET HIM DO THAT!
Jarrett puts EY in the King of the Mountain Match. So… are there going to be six guys in this match now? Or did someone get bumped?
EY jumps Jeff but Sonjay Dutt and some ex-WWE midcardersthe GFW roster makes the save. Then some TNA guys come out to back up EY even though Eric, a crazy man who doesn’t like any of them, had just attacked their good buddy Jeff Jarrett. This just plain didn’t feel like a brawl for promotional pride. It felt like guys coming out for the sake of having a brawl, and thus a huge waste of time.

GFW GUYS BACKSTAGE- Jeff Jarrett assures us that this is DEFINITELY NOT AN INVASION. Everyone got that? IT’S NOT AN INVASION!

AWESOME KONG vs. LEI’D TAPA (w/Royal Red)- 5.75/10
Royal Red cut a good promo before the match. They had a good hoss fight (not often that you sa that about a women’s match) with a lame double-countout finish.

PJ BLACK INTERVIEW- really boring.

DREW MCINTYRE INTERVIEW- decent

BOBBY ROODE PROMO- he says he wasn’t even considered for a spot in King of the Mountain. Then he calls out Rockstar Spud, so we could have a…

BOBBY ROODE & ROCKSTAR SPUD SEGMENT- decent promos, bad other stuff.
Spud was pretty good. Roode’s “It Factor” shirt is horrible. Roode himself was good, but this seems like he made a huge character transition REALLY quickly. Spud started a fight in response to a threat by Roode, but then completely got his ass kicked. What a chump!

ROODE & JARRETT BACKSTAGE- they yelled at each other.

KING OF THE MOUNTAIN QUALIFIER MATCH: Jesse Godderz vs. Bobby Lashley- 6/10
The match was much better than I thought it would be.
Pope calls JESSE GODDERZ “the future of TNA.” Actually, now that I think about it, that seems about right.

SOMEONE JUMPED DREW BACKSTAGE- suspicious. I would have suspected the GFW guys, but since they told me this wasn’t an invasion, we all know it couldn’t have been them.

DIXIE MEETS WITH THE JARRETTS- Dixie offers to go to the hospital with Drew and thus let Jarrett handle things here. In my head, I imagined that once Dixie was out of earshot, the Jarretts looked at each other and started jumping around giddily, exclaiming. “Oh my G-d I can’t believe that idiot has no idea what is going on!”

EC III & MATT HARDY SEGMENT- good stuff.

DOLLHOUSE SEGMENT- bad
Taryn wants Marti and Jade to face Gail in a cage match and take her out. A few issues here:
1. Who is booking this? Taryn?
2. Haven’t we seen this a bunch of times already?
3. And doesn’t Gail win every time? Why should we (or Taryn, for that matter) think this time will be any different?

INTERVIEW WITH CHRIS MORDETZKY- not bad, but they really should have shot him in a way that allows him to show off his muscles more.

THE WOLVES vs. BRIAN MYERS & TREVOR LEE- 6.5/10
Too short.

LASHLEY PROMO- good, although they should have seeded some comments by the announcers earlier in the night to explain why it was such a big deal for a wrestler to be “defending TNA” by winning the King of the Mountain Title.

TIGRE UNO vs. SONJAY DUTT- 5.25/10
Also short

EC III & JEFF JARRETT BACKSTAGE- bad.
Jeff tells Ethan “I was here the day you walked in the door,” which isn’t kayfabe true.
Jeff tells Ethan that he will defend the TNA World Heavyweight Title next week against the winner of tonight’s King of the Mountain Title match. Ethan and I had the same reaction to this, which was “you can’t do that!” Didn’t Dixie only put Jeff in charge of this week’s show? I thought they were very clear on that.

ANDERSON & BRAM VIDEO PACKAGE- apparently next week is Turning Point. We are having what is essentially a microphone on a pole match, but with a ladder instead of a pole.

So the replacement for the injured Drew McIntyre is… ROBBIE E.
Wow. That’s a f*cking let-down.

KING OF THE MOUNTAIN MATCH FOR THE VACANT TNA KING OF THE MOUNTAIN TITLE: Bobby Lashley vs. PJ Black vs. Chris Mordetzky vs. Eric Young vs. Robbie E.- 6.5/10
EY got pinned in about ten seconds. Mordetzky got pinned about ten seconds after that. Not a good start to his career. And PJ got pinned before those two could even get out. And by ROBBIE E. no less. And Lashley just pinned Robbie. So FOUR PINFALLS IN THE FIRST TWO MINUTES. EVERYONE BUT LASHLEY IS A CHUMP!
No count-down clocks for the penalty box?
The announcers- and Pope in particular- keep pushing this like it is some big match for promotional pride and is wondering why TNA guys don’t team up on GFW guys and vice versa, but it really doesn’t feel that way at all to me. It feels like five singles wrestlers competing for a singles title.
Pope saying “The Full Nelson is locked in!” sounds a lot less impressive than being able to call it “The Masterlock.” The match itself was pretty disappointing. It was just spots rather than any sort of story, and not really any cool spots, either.

A disappointing show from TNA (and GFW).

look man, Dixie is under a lot of stress lately, it probably just flew over her head

EY jumps Jeff but Sonjay Dutt and some ex-WWE midcarders ahem, Trevor Lee and a bunch of midcarders the GFW roster makes the save. GFW GUYS BACKSTAGE- Jeff Jarrett assures us that this is DEFINITELY NOT AN INVASION. Everyone got that? IT’S NOT AN INVASION!
He said it was a rivalry, just a rivalry

KING OF THE MOUNTAIN QUALIFIER MATCH: Jesse Godderz vs. Bobby Lashley- 6/10
The match was much better than I thought it would be.
Pope calls JESSE GODDERZ “the future of TNA.” Actually, now that I think about it, that seems about right.
actual question, why did Lashley and Jesse had to qualify for the match?, did I miss something?

SOMEONE JUMPED DREW BACKSTAGE- suspicious. I would have suspected the GFW guys, but since they told me this wasn’t an invasion, we all know it couldn’t have been them.
obviously Eli, or the BDC, he does have a bunch of enemies. I was hoping that during the show, all the TNA guys for the KOTM match would be out and it would just be GFW guys fighting against EY

Bless her heart, she's worried about her employees

that's like saying why watch Cena matches, or Tanahashi matches if they always win LOLGAILWINS

I'm gonna cry with happiness the day that the "Hall of Famer KIller" shows everyone that he was right about not trusting JJ and has to defend TNA

So a ladder match

No. No one ever explained it. I guess you could theoretically claim in hindsight that Jeff wanted the winner of this match (i.e. a TNA guy) to be tired, but I'm certain they won't actually bring that up in the future.
The more likely answer is that they thought it was a better idea to fly Jesse Godderz in for this match instead of not use (or pay for) Jesse and instead give Wolves vs. Myers & Lee more time, because that is the type of poor decision making that TNA is known for.

And I never would have suspected the GFW guys if they hadn't gone out of their way to say "it's not an invasion" because we all know how wrestling works.

That can't be it. If that was true she would actually pay them.

Because at least Cena and Tanahashi face different people

So a ladder match
Except that instead of winning when you pull the object down, you just get to use it as a weapon. Like Hunter and Nash had with the sledgehammer.

Dollhouse constantly fightin' Gail again is just like Batman always kickin' everyone's ass.
When they come, they'll come at what you love.
