Hulk Hogan issued a statement to People Magazine addressing his departure from WWE after a racially-driven rant became public knowledge.

In the statement, Hogan referred to an unspecified conversation "eight years ago" where he used "offensive language." TMZ reported Friday that the conversation was contained in the tape featuring Hogan and Heather Clem, the ex-wife of radio host Bubba the Love Sponge engaged in sexual acts, which was recorded 8-9 years ago in 2006.

"Eight years ago I used offensive language during a conversation. It was unacceptable for me to have used that offensive language; there is no excuse for it; and I apologize for having done it," Hogan said.

"This is not who I am. I believe very strongly that every person in the world is important and should not be treated differently based on race, gender, orientation, religious beliefs or otherwise. I am disappointed with myself that I used language that is offensive and inconsistent with my own beliefs."

On Friday, WWE said in a statement that they terminated Hogan's contract. Hogan's attorney, David Houston, claimed that Hogan resigned before he was fired. Houston said, "He decided to resign from WWE because he didn't want to put them or his family through this."

Meanwhile, Hogan continues the legal battle with Gawker stemming from the website releasing an excerpt from the tape in 2012. Hogan's $100 million invasion of privacy suit is scheduled for trial in October.

sucks that one can't speak their mind anymore, not even in what it's supposed to be a private setting. It sucks that public image is so important that this guy gets fired from a company because or a comment that he made 8-ish yrs ago. Booker said it 20 yrs ago and Vince himself said it 15 yrs ago, both on live television, maybe they should fire them too...

Yet the worst thing is that they are firing him because they don't want to bring attention and link WWE with Hogan's sex video, so it's pretty disgusting that they make him up to be a racist to have an 'excuse'

And none of what they are doing will matter anyway because everyone will always associate Hogan with WWE anyway.
