Daily Sports in Japan today reported that Genichiro Tenryu, 65, will retire later this year.
Tenryu had major back surgery and had not been the same since returning. A former star in sumo, Tenryu was pushed from the start in All Japan, after working in several U.S. territories for Roy Shire and Jim Crockett in the 70s.
By the mid-80s, Tenryu was one of the top stars in the world. His singles feud with Jumbo Tsuruta in the late 80s was one of the top in-ring rivalries of the past 30 years. He headlined stadium shows with the likes of Nobuhiko Takada, Antonio Inoki, Riki Choshu and Hulk hogan.
