BRM Reviews the 10/8/2014 Impact (Full Metal Mayhem!)

Post by Big Red Machine » Oct 9th, '14, 15:27

OPENING SEGMENT- idiotic.
Bobby Roode comes out and says that he wants an answer from Lashley about getting another world title shot, not form MVP. He calls Lashley out, but MVP and Kenny King come out instead. They call each other stupid before MVP brings up a fantastic point. Roode doesn’t deserve this title shot because he just lost a world title match to Lashley completely cleanly a few weeks ago, and hasn’t won a single match since then.
Roode responds to this logic with nonsense. He says that he knows what it is like to be world heavyweight champion, and that is why, he explains, “I am so passionate about getting my rematch.” No, Bobby. It’s not YOUR rematch. You don’t deserve it, and you haven’t even done anything to earn it. Instead of just whining to MVP and Kenny, why don’t you go ask Kurt Angle to book you in some matches so maybe you can EARN a rematch?
He then calls MVP and Kenny King “lackeys,” as if this was some great insult, and says that they don’t have what it takes to be champion. MVP sees through his not-so-clever plan and tells him to stop trying to stir up dissension, because it won’t work. And let’s be honest here: MVP is right. It’s not like Lashley is some big dumb mute who is incapable of talking for himself and is thus being used by MVP. If Lashley disagreed with MVP not wanting Roode to have a rematch, he would have said something. But he didn’t.
For some unknown reason, MVP decides to make Roode an offer: If Roode can beat both him and Kenny King in a handicap match, MVP will try to talk Lashley into giving Roode the title shot he wants so match. Roode had just said that he would do “anything “ to get another title shot, so naturally you would think that he would say something like “sounds good to me!”
Instead he responds by asking “so Lashley is just going to say yes to this?”
YOU DUMB F*CK!
Lashley does not want to give you a title shot. MVP, who you yourself believe has sway over Lashley, is offering to help get you one! If you take the match and win, you might get a title shot… but if you don’t take the match, you aren’t any better off than you are right now- WITH NO TITLE SHOT!
And don’t even bring up the stip that MVP added because HE HADN’T ADDED IT YET!
Said stip is that if Roode loses, he can never ever challenge for the title again in his entire career. And because this segment wasn’t stupid enough, now that Roode knows he will have to risk something major in this match, he accepts it… despite the fact that he was incredulous about it WHEN THERE WAS NOTHING ON THE LINE FOR HIM!

#1 CONTENDERSHIP MATCH… or something: Madison Rayne vs. Taryn Terrell vs. Angelina Love (w/Velvet Sky)- 4/10
Christy announced this as a “#1 Contendership match, but Tenay immediately told us it really wasn’t because Velvet Sky will be getting a title shot in Tokyo at Bound For Glory, so this match will determine who will face the winner of that match. This was the first match announced for Bound For Glory. It was mentioned in passing on the second segment of the GO-HOME SHOW.
Then there is the bigger problem. As some of you might be aware

Havok lost the title at the most recent tapings to Taryn Terrell, which would make her not the champion going into BFG. A few months ago TNA had a similar situation where they took the belt off of Sanada at a taping which was scheduled to air after a Wrestle-1 show where Sanada was supposed to defend the belt. The Japanese fans called BS on the whole deal, and complained that TNA and Wrestle-1 were engaging in “fraud” and “false advertising” because Sanada was being advertised as defending the title even though he wasn’t the champion. To avoid a future situation like this, TNA made sure not to use anyone on BFG who was a champion going into the last tapings but lost their belt, or anyone who was the champion coming out of the last tapings (so that the PPV broadcast wouldn’t give away as-of-yet unaired title changes). This is the reason why guys like Roode, Lashley, and the Wolves aren’t on the show. This is the reason why they aren’t bringing three of their best workers, their two best female workers, and their biggest crossover star to their biggest show of the year.
And yet now they are creating that same situation, for the sake of a match that makes no sense and won’t be any good anyway.
Anyway, we have a #2 contendership match featuring three women who haven’t done sh*t to earn it since they all lost a #1 contendership match three weeks ago.
Taryn hasn’t won since 8/27. Despite this, this is her second #1 contendership match since then
Madison Ryane has not won a match since July 17th. This is her third #1 contendership match since then.
Angelina hasn’t won a match since Slammiversary. Despite that, she has lost two title matches and a #1 contendership match.
Velvet Sky, who we just learned will be getting a title shot a Bound For Glory, actually did get a win about a month ago, although that was in a six person tag team match, and she beat girl wrestling in her very first match. She has lost a #1 contendeship match since then. Velvet’s last win before that? MAY 8th! Of course, this is a singles title. So when was Velvet’s last televised singles victory? May 16th.
Now I’m sure some of you are saying “Hey! Wait a minute, BRM! You said she hadn’t won a match since May 8th, so how is it that her last singles victory was May 16th?” Well the reason for that is because her last televised singles victory was May 16th, 2013! That’s right. The woman who is getting the title shot at TNA’s biggest show of the year HAS NOT WON A SINGLES MATCH IN ALMOST A YEAR AND A HALF!
Meanwhile, Bobby Roode is having to agree to stupid-ass stipulation just for the CHANCE of getting a title shot. Wins and losses don’t mean sh*t in this company, and if the results of the match don’t matter, why should I care about them? What am I paying to see?

Anyway, Madison wins by pinning Taryn

which makes no sense when you know that Taryn winds up walking out of the tapings with the title. Why not have her pin Angelina? The announcers tried to put over the fact that Taryn was about to win but Madison rolled up and used the tights, but why not have her steal the pin on Angelina instead so that Taryn looks just as strong but doesn’t have to get pinned at all, and so that Madison can go into her title match with Havok looking like a babyface?
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- Havok showed up and kicked Taryn’s ass. Madison ran away like a little pussy, so I guess this is supposed to be a heel vs. heel match. That seems a lot less fun to watch than a babyface vs. heel match.

MVP & PALS BACKSTAGE- MVP & Kenny assure Lashley that they’ll deal with Roode. Lashley says “thank you.”

LOW KI & TIGRE UNO vs. JAMES STORM & THE GREAT SANADA (w/Manik)- 5/10
Tenay tells us that at BG, it will be Storm & Sanada vs. Muta & Tajiri. That’s fine and all, but what was the point of involving Aries and Manik in this at all if you’re not going to use them?

NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH: Samuel Shaw vs. Bram- 5.5/10
The match was pretty solid, but I can’t help but note that these dumb f*cks booked a random No DQ’s match on a show whose main event will be a another type of weapons match that they have been building to for over a month.
Shaw wrestled without his shirt on like his hero, Gunner. He also got tattoos because Gunner has tattoos. Brittany came out to care for Gunner after the match.

BOBBY ROODE PROMO- good.

TEAM 3-D & WOLVES SEGMENT- awesome.

HANDICAP ELIMINATION MATCH IN WHICH IF ROODE WINS, HE WILL GET A SHOT AT LASHELY, BUT IF HE LOSES, HE CAN NEVER EVER CHALLENGE FOR THE WORLD TITLE AGAIN: Bobby Roode vs. Kenny King & MVP- 4/10
I just did not care at all. We all know Roode won’t lose a match with stips like this... and even if he did, so what? The last guy who lost a match with stips like this was Sting, and they couldn’t even hold to those stips for six months!
Roode rolls up MVP to eliminate him, but then wins by DQ when Lashley attacks him, so Roode didn’t even decisively win the f*cking match to earn his title shot. Why? What is so important about protecting Kenny King? They used him like a jobber for most of his run- even after he joined up with this stable. Why are we protecting him now at the expense of our big babyface? If you want Lashley to spear Roode, why not just have him do it AFTER THE MATCH?

EC III PROMO- Spud has “one more chance” to show his loyalty. Didn’t he do this last week when he help EC III beat EY? Why is EC III acting like Spud didn’t help him at all last week?

EC III PROMO IN FRONT OF THE CROWD- He claims to be undefeated in TNA. This is 100% false. He just lost by DQ to Rhino a few weeks ago. Also, he lost in that eight man First Blood match. Remember? The one after which MVP and Dixie started feuding because Dixie blamed MVP & Pals for causing Ethan to suffer his first defeat?
SEGMENT WHERE SPUD FINALLY STANDS UP TO ETHAN- GREAT! If only they had some sort of big PPV coming up that they could put the match on! It’s too bad they don’t have anything like that, so they’ll have to eventually give it away on free TV and make no money off of it at all.
Ethan fires Spud, which shouldn’t really matter because he is under contract to TNA for winning British Bootcamp.

Tenay, dumb f*ck that he is, apparently did not realize that the finish to the Roode match was a DQ until someone just told him right now.

MVP & PALS, & KURT ANGLE BACKSTAGE- HORRENDOUS
Kurt comes in and yells at MVP for booking matches on the show. Well, Kurt, WHERE THE F*CK HAVE YOU BEEN FOR THE PAST HOUR?! And why are you so pissed now? People book matches on this show all the time and you don’t seem to mind!
Kurt declares that Roode will wrestle in a #1 contendership match next week… which means that tonight’s match was just a giant waste of time. F*ck you very much, TNA! Kurt tells MVP that he had better no show up during next week’s #1 contendership match. Or what, Kurt? What are you going to do? Fire him? HE OWNS HALF OF THE COMPANY!

FULL METAL MAYHEM MATCH FOR THE TNA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES: The Wolves(c) vs. Team 3-D vs. the Hardy Boys- 8.5/10
AWESOME! These guys knew they wouldn’t have to wrestle much (if at all) over the next few months… so they wrestled like it! Tons of great hardcore spots. The Woles have definitely come out of this looking like they are right on there on the same level as the Hardys and Team 3-D.

A very bad episode of Impact saved by an awesome main event.
They did a good job running down the BFG card multiple times, but the only match they did anything that it even feels like building towards was Velvet vs. Havok, so I now know what the card is, but still have reason at all to want to buy the show.
