OPENING SEGMENT-
MVP says that Lashley will soon be the “Bellator MMA Promotion Champion.” Could no one do any actual research and find out what Bobby’s weight class would be and what the belt is called? I don’t know what the belt is called, but I can assure you it’s not that.
MVP then says that Lashley is the toughest guy on the planet. Samoa Joe comes out to dispute this. We got LOUD chants of “JOE’S GONNA KILL YOU!” Jo cut a good promo challenging Lashley to a fight. For a few seconds, I felt like I was watching late-2005 TNA again, which is a feeling I would like to have a lot more. Maybe I’ll go rewatch those fall PPVs soon.
Kenny King ran his mouth, so Joe punched him in the face. All three heels quickly beat Joe down, but security quickly broke it up. Lashley accepted the challenge. So we’re having the two singes champs face off with no hype whatsoever. Also, it’s Joe vs. Lashley with no hype whatsoever. Why can’t they just make this the main event for NEXT week?
GAIL-TARYN VIDEO PACKAGE- they claim that this match has been over a year in the making, which really isn’t true because they faced off in a title match just a few weeks ago. THAT match was year in the making. This one is just a few weeks. Otherwise good, though.
TNA KNOCKOUTS TITLE MATCH: Gail Kim(c) vs. Taryn Terrell- 5.75/10
Taz says that saying that she wants to be champion makes Taryn arrogant and disrespectful. It’s one thing to be a heel. It’s another thing to be a total idiot.
Dear NY TNA crowd: If you chant “WE WANT PUPPIES!” at a match, then you are completely forfeiting your right to chant “BETTER THAN THE DIVAS!” at the same match.
The match was great for the time it got, but I HATED the finish. I’ve never been a fan of the “roll through the flying crossbody and wind up on top for the pin” finish, and I really hated the way they set it up here (right after Taryn had kicked out of Gail’s finisher). Add in the fact that they hae now given us Gail vs. Taryn with a clean finish, including Gail kicking out of Taryn’s new finisher, and I think they have completely blown their wad already with this feud, without making any money off of it whatsoever.
POST-MATCH ANGLE- okay
Jessica Havok showed up, and answered a question that I’m sure people have been asking themselves for over two years now: What would it look like if Cheereader Melissa and Bane had a baby?
She clotheslined both of them, gave Taryn an Air Raid Crash, gave Gail a chokeslam, then gave Gail an Air Crash, too. Normally I wouldn’t like them throwing Havok into the title picture right away (because then she has nowhere to go but down), but with TNA desperate for cash, I can understand wanting to get her in a big spot on Bound For Glory to try to get some buys, so if that is what they are doing, I guess I am fine with it.
EY & MVP BACKSTAGE- MVP tries to sew dissension between Roode and EY by by bringing up their feud in 2006-2007. It’s probably not a good idea to remind your audience of one of the dumbest, most non-sensical feuds in the history of pro wrestling. That being said, this wouldn’t have bothered me so much if it wasn’t all completely pointless. We all know that neither EY nor Roode will buy what MVP is selling, so al of this was just a waste of time.
BRO-MANS & ZEMA SEGMENT- apparently these guys are allowed to go hang out at a rooftop nightclub instead of showing up to work. This was idiotic and went entirely too long.
EC III PROMO- It’s never good when I totally agree with the heel that the company needs to stop living in the past. Rhino shows up to fight EC III, but EC III runs away. Rhino demands a match with EC III. Instead, Ethan books him against Spud. Why is Ethan allowed to book matches? We also got no explanation for why, if Rhino wants to fight Ethan, he can’t just go after him right now. That’s what he did when he came out, wasn’t it? Attack Ethan outside the confines of a match?
SHAW & GUNNER BACKSTAGE- they made sure to focus on this random chick, and had her pose silly in the background while Shaw and Gunner were talking. I have no idea who she is. Taz cites her presence as evidence that “Sam Shaw’s got game,” despite the fact that Shaw was not paying any attention to her, and there was no indication that she was paying any attention to him, either.
Shaw apologized for being crappy last week. He said that he put on Gunner’s military uniform because he “wanted to know what it felt like to be a hero.”
SAM SHAW & GUNNER vs. MAGNUS & BRAM- no rating. Bad segment.
Bram was wearing a shirt with the Eye of Horus on it. I guess he’s still got some of his old Ascension gear lying around.
Shaw thinks Gunner has been hurt, so he gets very angry. I get what they’re going for. I just think it’s dumb.
MVP & BOBBY ROODE BACKSTAGE- same as my comments on the EY-MVP segment.
MORE IDIOCY WITH THE BRO-MANS- their dates are The Beautiful People. So now it is FIVE employees who are allowed to skip work to go on a date. And why is this even airing?
#1 CONTENDERSHIP MATCH: Eric Young vs. Bobby Roode- 7/10
Mike Tenay thinks MVP was referring to Team Canada when he talked about Roode treating EY like his personal bitch. IT WAS NINE MONTHS OF YOUR LIFE, MIKE! How do you not remember this feud? And to put an even finer point on it, how is it that a guy who wasn’t even in the company at the time remembers this feud, but the company’s LEAD ANNOUNCER, “Professor” Mike Tenay, THE MAN WHO CALLED EVERY MOMENT OF IT, does not remember it at all?
They had a great match, with some great reversals. It was also totally clean with absolutely no indication that MVP’s machinations mattered in any way, which begs the question: WHY DO IT IN THE FIRST PLACE?
THE CAMERAMAN INTERVIEWS BOBBY ROODE- good promo by Roode. He also had a good staredown with Lashley.
TEAM 3-D PROMO- They have chosen the next match in the tag team title challenge best of seven series thing to be a tables match. Both guys were good
WINNER BECOMES #1 CONTENDER TO THE X-DIVISION TITLE: Homicide vs. Tigre Uno vs. Crazzy Steve vs. Manik vs. Low Ki vs. Zema Ion- 4.5/10
OH MY F*CKING G-D! ANOTHER six-way X-Division #1 contendership match with THESE SAME GUYS. What was even the f*cking point of last week’s six-man tag team match. On team of three guys won, and the other team lost, but IT DOESN’T F*CKING MATTER AT ALL BECAUSE ALL SIX GUYS ARE IN THIS F*CKING #1 CONTENDERSHIP MATCH ANYWAY! GGGRRRRR!
Would it really have been so hard to just book a three-way between the winning team? Would it?
Tenay describes a six-way match as the “perfect setting for the no-limits X-Division.” Because G-d knows we wouldn’t want to see some sort of singles match instead of watching the same spotfest week after week after week. At least they didn’t bury all five losers this time by making it an elimination match.
Nice of Zema to show up to work for his match. I gave them an extra .25 because I was shocked that they kept the legal men consistent throughout the match. Cide wins, which is good because I was afraid they were just going to do Joe vs Ki again. I don’t know if Cide will be staying around past these tapings, but if he isn’t, they might has well get some use good use out of him by having him lose to Joe in front of an NYC crowd that should be very hot for that particular match-up.
POST-MATCH ANGLE- Storm & Sanada show up, and Storm orders The Great Sanada to attack Manik. Sanada hits the kneeling Manik with a kick to the head. Mike Tenay notes that this kick is similar to James Storm’s Last Call, and wonders if this might be The Great Sanada paying tribute to his new mentor. I responded to Mike’s question by shouting “IT’S A F*CKING KICK, MIKE! THEY ALL LOOK PRETTY MUCH THE SAME!
Then Storm and Sanada dragged Manik to the back.
AUSTIN ARIES PROMO- he calls out Storm and Sanada and challenges the to fight him two-on-one because of what happened last week. If Aries wanted to fight these gys so badly, why didn’t he come out a few minutes ago and help Manik?
Anyway, Storm and Sanada come out, without Manik, so I guess they just left him tied up somewhere in the building (he can’t be in the trunk of their car because pick-up trucks don’t have trunks). I hope someone is rushing to help him while of this is going on.
Storm says he has helped Sanada, and now he will do the same to Manik. Now I REALLY hope someone is helping Manik. At least Sanada appeared to let Storm do stuff to him willingly. If Storm starts doing to Manik some of the things he might have done to Sanada in that woodshed, he would be breaking several state and federal laws.
Storm says he will make Sanada the greatest wrestler to ever come out of Japan, and that the world “great” will forever be associated with The Great Sanada. Aries is unhappy about this because he is The Greatest Man That Ever Lived and The Common Denominator of Greatness.” Aries says he has back-up. The back-up in question was Tajiri. I marked out. They brawled. The heels were sent running like scalded dogs. A very good segment, though doing this segment back-to-back with Manik’s abduction made things feel kind of weird.
EC III & SPUD BACKSTAGE- Ethan says that Spud has not done anything to try to get vengeance for Dixie, and tells Spud that he either takes this match or he will be fired.
CHRIS MELENDEZ VIDEO PACKAGE- good. He will make his debut next week, the day before September 1tth, which was the event that inspired Melendez to enlist.
RHINO vs. ROCKSTAR SPUD (w/Ethan Carter III)- DUD!
A pointless squash that did nothing but make me feel sorry for Spud. Are they really trying to turn Spud face? That would be such a terrible idea. Once you turn him babyface, he just becomes a loser. It’s his stoogery that makes him fun.
SAMOA JOE vs. BOBBY LASHLEY- 7/10
Wow. That STJoe on the floor looked like it SUCKED to take.
Hmm… Joe doesn’t completely cleanly, so that could set up Joe vs. Lashley for the title at BFG. Joe would have to lose the X-Division Title, but a match like Ki vs. Cide should be awesome, given the proper time. I actually like this scenario a lot. Roode could lose clean, and he and EY could team against King and MVP at BFG, then stay together as a tag team afterwards. That’d be kind of cool.
A good show from TNA, although they really need to start hyping up (or even announcing) BFG matches because WE DON’T HAVE ANY YET!

I thought about this too, but i figure this is a particular scenario where she's both a monster and a KO. So Monsters usually debut by taking out the babyface, and since there's only one KO story going on, she had to come out like this.
BRO-MANS & ZEMA SEGMENT- apparently these guys are allowed to go hang out at a rooftop nightclub instead of showing up to work. This was idiotic and went entirely too long.

how do you watch wrestling? Heels always make sense, or usually do. I wouldn't say that ECIII booked Spud vs Rhino, but rather accepted the challenged on behalf of Spud, typical heel stuff. I'm really liking this ECIII vs ECW feud.
SHAW & GUNNER BACKSTAGE- they made sure to focus on this random chick, and had her pose silly in the background while Shaw and Gunner were talking. I have no idea who she is. see comment above. Plus TNA doesn't pay for those not booked, so they're there on their own accord.

They have announced some Wrestle-1 names to be there. Anyway, i think they'll start doing this once they're done with the new tapings, they probably need to secure some guys and figure out the state of others beforehand. PLUS they should be promoting the No Surrender (or whatever show is next) matches

there is still Madiosn vs. Brittany. That feud never even ended. Or they could have just booked her in a semi-squash against Tessmacher
BRO-MANS & ZEMA SEGMENT- apparently these guys are allowed to go hang out at a rooftop nightclub instead of showing up to work. This was idiotic and went entirely too long.

It is when it's both not funny and doesn't establish any new information

how do you watch wrestling? Heels always make sense, or usually do. I wouldn't say that ECIII booked Spud vs Rhino, but rather accepted the challenged on behalf of Spud, typical heel stuff. I'm really liking this ECIII vs ECW feud.
These are different complaints. I am always for heels making sense. The thing that I agree with EC III about is his criticism of the company's emphasis on old (especially ECW) stuff.
They tried Hardcore Justice. It sucked. They did EV2.0. It didn't get over. They did RVD vs. Jerry Lynn... it was a pale imitation of their matches from 99-2001 (gee... who could have seen that coming? I mean, it's not like they were twelve years older or something... 8-| ). Now they do this crap with Rhino and Dreamer and Bully, it really hasn't added anything to anything. ECW died MORE THAN THIRTEEN YEARS AGO, and we've seen so many ECW reunions (especially from TNA) that they just don't mean anything anymore. It is counterproductive to be focusing on that crap when you have TV time that could be used for something like getting better matches out of the women or the X-Division... because all those they really need is more time and they could be stealing the show, just like they used to back in the day. Hell... I would even rather see a backstage segment that actually does something with the Menagerie than see old ECW guys. I'd be fine with Rhino normally, but just the idea that they brought him in with an angle about ECW in order to feud with more old ECW guys has totally turned me off to everything he does.
As for him having booking power- only Kurt Angle can make matches. This supposed match, whether it was going to be Rhino vs. Ethan or Rhino vs. Spud, needed official approval from management in order for it to happen... but the moment it left the wrestlers' mouths, everyone just treated it as if it were fact. THAT annoys me.
C'mon, that was Brittany!! and she clearly was checking Sam out
I did not recognize her at all (which shows what a piss-poor job they have done of establishing her), and to me it seemed like she was trying to steal the camera's attention. If she was trying to covertly check Shaw out, she shouldn't have been f*cking gyrating like that. When I check a girl out, I STAND THE F*CK STILL (or at least move my head to follow her). If she was trying to get Shaw's attention so he could look at her sexy body, she probably would have had a lot more success if she were STANDING SOMEWHERE THAT WAS ACTUALLY WITHIN HIS FIELD OF VISION!
TIL Bram is Kenneth Cameron from NXT
I know. That was the joke.

see comment above. Plus TNA doesn't pay for those not booked, so they're there on their own accord.
1. Zema was there, but he was booked on this show.
2. This logic falls apart when you consider how many times we have seen the card being made on the fly. For example, neither Joe nor Lashley were booked in a match for tonight's show. Why were they in the building? Why did MVP have to keep showing up to Impact while he was hurt if he didn't want to wrestle? Etc.
3. Even if this were true, why did TNA send a camera crew with them to broadcast their date?
And while I'm ranting on this, something I just heard on last night's Observer Radio:
Why would you put TBP in this spot when in just a few weeks, Robbie and his real life girlfriend Brooke Tessmacher will be appearing on this season of The Amazing Race, which starts in just three weeks?
#1 CONTENDERSHIP MATCH: Eric Young vs. Bobby Roode- 7/10
Mike Tenay thinks MVP was referring to Team Canada when he talked about Roode treating EY like his personal bitch. IT WAS NINE MONTHS OF YOUR LIFE, MIKE! How do you not remember this feud? HE'S SENILE!!!
Then he shouldn't be announcing, should he. He and Taz both should have been replaced LONG ago, and every week that TNA doesn't do this they are just hurting their product more and more.
TEAM 3-D PROMO- They have chosen the next match in the tag team title challenge best of seven series thing to be a tables match. Both guys were good
I think it's just a best of 4, since two wins give you the titles.
I know. I was making fun of how pointlessly confusing it is. (It's not "best of four" either because the best of four would be three, but you only need two to win. They should have just come up with a gimmick name to give it.
WINNER BECOMES #1 CONTENDER TO THE X-DIVISION TITLE: Homicide vs. Tigre Uno vs. Crazzy Steve vs. Manik vs. Low Ki vs. Zema Ion- 4.5/10

That would be a good idea. I've never seen TJP wrestle as a heel, but I bet it will be a lot more interesting and less stupid than "Manik" and that awful costume.
A good show from TNA, although they really need to start hyping up (or even announcing) BFG matches because WE DON’T HAVE ANY YET!
They have announced some Wrestle-1 names to be there. Anyway, i think they'll start doing this once they're done with the new tapings, they probably need to secure some guys and figure out the state of others beforehand. PLUS they should be promoting the No Surrender (or whatever show is next) matches
These tapings take them through the 9/25 show. That gives them TWO WEEKS to build up their entire BFG card. We're only a month out right now, and the only direction we have any sort of HINT they are going in is Aries & Tajiri (& Muta?) vs. Storm & Sanada (& Manik?). We have no idea where they are going with the matches for ANY of their titles (I guess they're doing Gail vs. Havok- so that's one), including the world title and the supposedly "revived" tag team division and titles. BFG is TNA's Wrestlemania. At this point before Mania, we knew (or at least could tell that they were heading towards) Bryan vs. Hunter, Orton vs. Batista, Brock vs. Taker, Cena vs. Wyatt, and we we knew there would be the Andre Battle Royale.
This is a company that couldn't even make sure Bubba Ray Dudley resigned a contract to be working for them at the time before announcing him for their Hall of Fame and also stuck him a long series for the tag titles before making sure he would still be under contract to end the damn thing. I have no faith in their ability to do anything.
Apparently there will be a No Surrender show (9/25, I think)... and that is a TERRIBLE idea. ALL of their focus should be on building toward BFG. Not a big show two weeks before it on free TV.

agree with you, it was a really stacked show. personally i would have had that Joe/MVP and co segment on last week, and have this show start off with the No 1 contenders, KOs match as top of the second hour, and close with Lashley/Joe. Have Roode come out at the end to help Joe after Kenny attacked him and save the staredown for the end of the show, likewise this should be enough for Kenny and Joe to start something off for the title, i don't know why Kenny isn't doing anything.
they completely break kayfabe announcing face offs that haven't happened, but they do tend to promote like the top 5 things that will happen on the show

I thought about this too, but i figure this is a particular scenario where she's both a monster and a KO. So Monsters usually debut by taking out the babyface, and since there's only one KO story going on, she had to come out like this.
there is still Madiosn vs. Brittany. That feud never even ended. Or they could have just booked her in a semi-squash against Tessmacher
i had completely forgotten about that feud. But I still think Havok's best debut had to be against these two. And as much as i don't wanna see any more TBP vs Kim right now, I'd love to see Taryn feud with Havok before Havok goes for Kim. or at least make this thing a triple threat feud of some sort
BRO-MANS & ZEMA SEGMENT- apparently these guys are allowed to go hang out at a rooftop nightclub instead of showing up to work. This was idiotic and went entirely too long.
a BroMans comedy segment is never a waste of time
It is when it's both not funny and doesn't establish any new information
Bro Mans are always funny
EC III PROMO- It’s never good when I totally agree with the heel that the company needs to stop living in the past. Rhino shows up to fight EC III, but EC III runs away. Rhino demands a match with EC III. Instead, Ethan books him against Spud. Why is Ethan allowed to book matches? We also got no explanation for why, if Rhino wants to fight Ethan, he can’t just go after him right now. That’s what he did when he came out, wasn’t it? Attack Ethan outside the confines of a match?
how do you watch wrestling?
THAT annoys me.
agree on the ECW thing, but since it's putting ECIII over i haven't minded at all, and the end it's new school defeating old school. To me i have never had a problem with wrestlers accepting challenges and the match taking place; it does leave some inconsistencies that the authority would only stop some matches and not all, but i can live with that.
If she was trying to get Shaw's attention so he could look at her sexy body, she probably would have had a lot more success if she were STANDING SOMEWHERE THAT WAS ACTUALLY WITHIN HIS FIELD OF VISION!
maybe you're right, and she was trying to steal the camera's attention, it would had been better IMO. If this goes the way i think it could, it works that she seemed more of a creeper than Shaw himself.
TIL Bram is Kenneth Cameron from NXT
I know. That was the joke.
no, like i honestly didn't know that Bram was Kenneth Cameron, all this time i thought Bram came out of nowhere
MORE IDIOCY WITH THE BRO-MANS- their dates are The Beautiful People. So now it is FIVE employees who are allowed to skip work to go on a date. And why is this even airing?
Robbie and his real life girlfriend Brooke Tessmacher
well, now you're just trying to break my heart
HE'S SENILE!!!
Then he shouldn't be announcing, should he. He and Taz both should have been replaced LONG ago, and every week that TNA doesn't do this they are just hurting their product more and more.
100% agree, don't get me wrong. I dislike them both (not as much as lawler and cole tho)
Not a big show two weeks before it on free TV.
yeap, terrible idea, next week should have been No Surrender at the latest. I fear that BFG will be more of an exhibition show, that a storyline driven show. I'm guessing that No Surrender will be used to decide the no 1 contenders for BFG, which is not necessarily bad if the people involved start feuding right now. Havok vs Kim pretty much already started, but they'll likely wait for NS to make it official for the title. the tag titles surely have the last TLC match for BFG. The only ones i can't see working is the world title and the X division if they barely need to hype up for No Surrender, unless Lashley defeats Roode in a dirty win and the just use those two weeks to build up to a cage match or something. Good booking could definitely make it work, which is what also worries me the most.

But it's NOT getting Ethan over. Ethan's own personality is getting Ethan over. Ethan has always needs tons of help to win and when things are fair, he loses. The Bully match made him look tough, but he still needed tons of help to have a chance of beating Bully. Now is afraid to face Rhino one-on-one. That's not getting him over. Yeah, he beat Rhino up with a chair, and that got him some heat, but if they want to get Ethan more over, he will need to beat Rhino in a fair fight.
My problems is not with the challenge being made or accepted. My problem is with the announcers treating it as if it is official without word from management. All it would take is Tenay saying "I'm getting word from backstage that Kurt Angle has approved this match!" and your problem is solved. It's a simple fix, but they just totally ignore it instead.
SHAW & GUNNER BACKSTAGE- they made sure to focus on this random chick, and had her pose silly in the background while Shaw and Gunner were talking. I have no idea who she is. The only place I can see this going is Gunner & Madison vs. Shaw & Brittney in a match where we have two babyfaces fighting off an alliance of their same-sex stalkers, which is the sort of thing that just sounds atrocious when you say it out loud.

They are constantly bickering for no reason, they are stupid and they are both guys who should know better. The problem for not just the world title (the only scenarios that could work are the one you described with Roode, the one I described with Joe, or Roode winning clean and Lashley getting his rematch at BFG (the last of which would, of course, be idiotic, but I wouldn't put it past them because they did EXACTLY the same thing with EY earlier this year). That would leave them with whatever they do with the X-Division Title (which will almost certainly be a random multi-man clusterf*ck because that is all they ever do with the X-Division Title), whatever they do with Shaw-Gunner, and maybe MVP vs. EY? That leave absolutely nothing for some important names like EC III, Kenny King, Bram, Magnus, and Abyss.

let me re-phrase it. It's putting Ethan over, and it's doing it as your typical cocky chicken shit heel. I think ECIII defeating Rhino is coming soon, no one would be stupid enough to not have ECIII be the one over by the time the feud is over.
100% agree, don't get me wrong. I dislike them both (not as much as lawler and cole tho)
Really? Lawler I can understand. He's usually annoying, but I rarely find him to be stupid, and when he is, at least he is trying to defend the babyface and condemn the heel.
But how can you possibly find Michael Cole to be more annoying than Taz and Tenay. He's not Jim Ross, but it's not like he's Mike Adamle, either. He is just a guy trying to do his job and succeeding at doing it competently. Taz and Tenay, though...

I'm sure that put in the same situation, Tenay and Taz would do a better job if they had Vince dictating what to say, but i'm sure neither Tenay nor taz have anyone telling them what to say on the ear. Even then, i still rather take T&T's stupidity and lack of charisma, than Lawler and Cole, who to me sound so hypocrite, i can hear their lies come out of the mouths, and i don't dislike their content, but i despise their delivery. everything is a joke to them.

I want to believe that TNA somewhat knew that Jeff could make it to Japan and I don't think they expected Ray to pull this off just like that, I'm sure there was a talk with both Devon and Ray about putting them in the Hall of Fame and Ray surely agreed and never said, 'yeah, i may leave by then tho' so i can see how TNA felt that Ray was resigning.
X Division i don't have a problem if it's just Joe vs a Wrestle-1 contender without a story behind it. I think the division (and what Joe has been doing lately) work with Joe taking on challengers left and right. If not, I could see Joe vs Homicide vs Low Ki being a big attraction and they already have a little bit of history this last weeks.
Also remember that part of the card will come from Wrestle-1, they have some big names there. and now that i think about it, Wrestle-1 already announced that they're crowing their first ever champ like 3 days before, so they may defend that at BFG. Side note, I read that the they'll unify the ZERO1 title with the Wrestle-1 title at that tourny.
