WINNER BECOMES #1 CONTENDER'S TO THE ROH WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES: R.D. Evans & Q.T. Marshall vs. C & C Wrestle Factory vs. Tadarius Thomas & ACH- 5.75/10
Have Marshall & Evans even won a single match? How the hell did they get into a #1 contendership match? And Coleman & Alexander just beat ACH & Thomas the day before this was taped at Border Wars 2013. How is it that they are both in this match? Did the match that I paid to see mean nothing? Come on, ROH! This is TNA sh*t right here! You're better than that!
Anyway, the match was decent, though slightly botchy at times. At least the right team went over.
Corino was extremely annoying during the entrances in this match, acting shocked that none of the teams involved in the match were SCUM, and saying things like "how in the H-E-Double Hockey Sticks is this being allowed." Just WAY too over the top. Also, if Corino wants ROH destroyed, why doesn't he just start screaming the F word on commentary in an attempt to get them thrown off the air?
BRISCOES PROMOS- I hated this. A feud about personal issues is absolutely not what people want to see between the Briscoes.
SEGMENT WITH NIGEL, LONDON, & ELGIN- Nigel puts London over and says that he can come back to ROH whenever he wants as soon as he gets healthy. R.D. Evans and Q.T. Marshall then interrupt. R.D. says that it is time for London to step away, then shoves him. Elgin hits R.D. with a spinning backfist. Q.T. tries to bail but Ciampa comes out and takes him out, then goes and gives Evans a Project Ciampa. He and Elgin have a staredown and then start whispering in each other's ears before they are broken up by officials.
I wasn't much of a fan of this segment. I would have preferred for Ciampa to get his revenge in a bigger spot and without Elgin helping him with R.D. The Elgin vs. Ciampa build could be good, but I don't think now is the right time for it. Elgin shouldn't lose until he gets his title shot and you don't want Ciampa to lose in his first big match back.
WINNER GETS A TV TITLE SHOT AT BEST IN THE WORLD 2013: Jay lethal vs. BJ Whitmer vs. "The Prodigy" Mike Bennett (w/Maria Kanellis)- 6/10
Once again, we have some very unworthy challengers here, and it bothers me. Lethal has only won two matches since February. Before his win in that idiotic finish at Border Wars, Whitmer had lost his last five matches. Since his victory in his return at Supercard of Honor VII Bennett has lost his only two matches... and both to Roderick Strong! Why isn't Roddy in this match? And if we go back a bit to before Bennett's hiatus, he has only won TWO MATCHES (three including the win over Shelton at SCOH) since his big win against Lance Storm back in June. That's THREE WINS IN THE PAST YEAR (and one of those was over the injured Mike Mondo). Not championship material!
Note to the production truck: We don't need the camera on Maria when all she is doing is sitting down and talking! There is action going on in the ring, including what seemed to be a really cool three-way spot. I say "seemed to be " because all I have to judge it on is the crowd reaction because I didn't get to see it for myself BECAUSE THE F*CKIG CAMERA WAS SHOWING ME MARIA'S HAIR!
This was a good match, but definitely not main event quality. Lethal wins by pinning BJ Whitmer, who, at the time this was taped, had an ROH World Title shot coming up in less than two weeks, so that's a booking fail right there. After the match Maria claims that Whitmer called her some horrible name so Bennett attacks him and they get pulled apart while Maria laughs and says she is showing off her devious side so people realize that she is more than a pretty face.
The wrestling on this show was okay, but I really have to question the booking logic. From a storyline point of view, the only match at Best in the World 2013 that I am looking forward to is Steen vs. Hardy.
