BRM Revoews the 5/18/2013 ROH

Post by Big Red Machine » May 20th, '13, 13:24

Steve Corino officially takes up his duties as color commentator, and Jimmy Jacobs is standing behind him as a body guard.

JAY LETHAL PROMO- He says we're not sure where Steen's loyalties lie, then challenges Jimmy Jacobs to a match, resulting in...

JAY LETHAL vs. JIMMY JACOBS- 6.5/10

WORLD TITLE PICTURE SEGMENT- Nigel comes out and says that Michael Elgin is the #1 contender, but that Elgin doesn't mind taking out SCUM while he waits. Okay, fine... but if Elgin is the #1 contender, he shouldn't be waiting while everyone and their tag team partner gets a title shot! And speaking of... Nigel announces that the American Wolves will each be getting title shots.
Jay comes out and says that he can whoop anyone's ass. Mark comes out and says that Jay has gotten a big head since winning the title and all he can talk about now is how he can whoop everyone's ass.... well Mark is sick of it, so he points out to Jay that he won their first match against each other in ROH. For those who don't have great memories for minutiae, that match was at Honor Invades Boston on August 24... of 2002! Jay responds to these comments by offering Mark a title shot in Baltimore at the next iPPV. Nigel says he'll think about it.
Hidden text.
Mark will, in fact, be getting this title shot, meaning that his justification for getting said title shot is the fact that he beat the champ almost eleven years ago (completely ignoring the fact that Jay has gotten two wins on Mark since then). It's not like Mark has done anything else to justify this because his last match was a loss in a TV Title match the night before this was taped at Border Wars 2012

And while I'm in the mood for it, an Elgin-related side-rant. Why are they calling Elgin the #1 contender if there are so many people in line in front of him? Even when he won the "#1 contendership match" he wasn't really the #1 contender because both Cole and Whitmer already had title matches announced. Since he has won the title, no less than FOUR PEOPLE have been given title shot before him (Davey in Texas, Eddie in Columbus, Mark Briscoe at Best in the World 2013, and Matt Hardy at the TV taping the day after that in Baltimore)! To make matters worse, none of those guys have really done anything to deserve title shots (although with Matt that is fine because that is the angle). GGRRR! It makes me so mad! If he isn't going to be the #1 contender, don't call him that! Just say the match was for a future ROH World Title shot!
CAPRICE COLEMAN & CEDRIC ALEXANDER vs. RHETT TITUS & CLIFF COMPTON- 5.75/10

ADAM COLE vs. KEVIN STEEN- 7/10
While he doesn't actually cheat for himself, Cole knowingly takes advantage of Steen's distraction, turning heel.

Overall, a great episode of ROH in the ring, and with a lot fewer promos than normal. My one gripe isn't really with the show itself so much as it is with the overall booking, and that can be found in the spoiler box.

no 1 contenderships don't really mean anything in ROH now a days. It's just like every champ has to run through the roster and then change him. We really don't need title matches in every show, build some feuds up there too.
