Cheerleader Melissa is not a women’s wrestler. She’s a woman who just happens to be a professional wrestler – huge difference. While other women will pretty much only wrestle other women, Cheerleader Melissa is one of the few who could believably take down any promotion’s main eventers at any given moment. Melissa doesn’t just give credibility to women in wrestling, she transcends gender to become something greater. She’s rough, she’s tough, she makes people bleed and most importantly, she has fantastic matches worldwide.
Indie wrestling fans probably know of Cheerleader Melissa because of SHIMMER – Women’s Athletes. SHIMMER is one of the greatest wrestling federations running today, and Cheerleader Melissa is one of the best wrestlers they have. She had a notable feud with MsChif for some time, having some of the most brutal matches in SHIMMER history. In time, the two stopped fighting and started tagging. Daffney joined the duo and the two won several matches, yet haven’t ever really been close to winning the SHIMMER tag team belts. In time, the two went back to singles wrestling as MsChif won the SHIMMER title. All of Melissa’s SHIMMER matches are great, especially her fights against Wesna Busic.
Her career hasn’t always been sunshine though.
TNA has a notorious reputation for taking unique stars and somehow messing everything up about them. This goes double in the women’s division, a division that started as a breath of fresh air while WWE was still making models do popcorn matches, then degraded into a bunch of backstage brawls and generally bad matches. Cheerleader Melissa found herself tangled up in this mess, managing Awesome Kong.
Wait, WHAT?
Now I know managers can be integral to the success of a wrestler. Their addition of charisma and character as well as being able to cheat on behalf of their ‘client’ can really help any struggling wrestler. But none of these things need to be added to Awesome Kong ever! Kong’s a physically imposing beast who doesn’t need to cheat to win, nor needs a mouthpiece to talk – because surprise surprise, she doesn’t need to talk.
So you have Cheerleader Melissa, who’s absolutely beautiful, and she’s covered in a burqa, calling herself Raisha Saeed, and not wrestling. Thankfully, she started wrestling as Saeed later, and by the middle of 2009 she was unmasked and wrestling as Alissa Flash. So now you have one of the best female wrestlers on the planet, surely she’s going to dominate and give even more credibility to the most stacked women’s roster on TV today? Well, that didn’t happen. But what did? Well, she wrestled for six months, had a good match with Hamada, and got released. TNA kills me sometimes, I swear.
TNA aside, Cheerleader Melissa has had a great career and continues to evolve. If ever a woman were to fight a man and every single person in the arena considered it an equal fight, I would wager that Cheerleader Melissa caused it – either directly or indirectly. Her 11 year career is already incredibly notable and it proves that her “future legend” nickname is hardly just talk. Melissa is a true pioneer, and if you haven’t noticed her yet, you probably need to.

Reality TV is faker than "fake" wrestling!
