WWE Signs Top Worldwide Female Wrestler and First Female Referee since 1980

-- Io Shirai, one of the biggest women's wrestling stars in Japan, has accepted WWE's offer to join the company, our Dave Meltzer reports.

Shirai, 27, is considered one of the top wrestlers in the Stardom promotion. She had previously attended a Performance Center tryout back in March, though WWE quickly wiped out all mentions of her in an accompanying article.

This would be a big blow to Stardom, with both of their top acts in Shirai and Kairi Hojo departing the company. Both had previously considered staying in Japan after receiving interest from WWE late last year, but it seems that both have now changed their minds.

Hojo announced her departure from Stardom earlier this month, and is expected to start at the WWE Performance Center shortly. As of right now, there is no start date for Shirai to come in.

We have learned that WWE has signed independent wrestler Kennadi Brink as a referee for the company.

The 25 year old Baltimore, Maryland native got her start in wrestling in July of 2010 when she started training regularly at Gillberg’s Professional Wrestling Academy in Severn, Maryland.

During her teens years, Jessie was overweight; never imagining of one day stepping into the ring herself. With courage, discipline, motivation and help from a local professional wrestler, who was signed to a developmental contract with the WWE, she was able to lose over 60 lbs and become an athlete.

As of late Brink has been wrestling for promotions such as MCW, SHIMMER, SHINE, and ROH, to name a few.

She is also the winner of the 2014 Reid Flair scholarship, presented at the Mid-Atlantic Legends fan-fest in Charlotte, North Carolina! The award was presented by legendary wrestler Dr. Tom Prichard. Prichard, Les Thatcher. Lance Storm and Nigel McGuinness and she was the one person out of 50 males and females to receive the award.

She worked as a referee for a few NXT events in March of this year when they toured Ocala and Jacksonville, Florida.
