Top joshi star Kairi Hojo announced her departure from Stardom earlier today. It’s been rumored for months that Hojo was leaving the promotion and going to WWE/NXT after signing a three year deal with the company earlier this year. Those rumors are apparently coming to fruition now.
Hojo’s announcement came after winning the Artist of Stardom alongside Konami and Hiromi Mimura from Queen’s Quest at Shinkiba earlier today. She has requested to team as Threedom one more time tomorrow in Japan, and the trio of Io, Mayu, and Kairi will face Kyona, Hiromi, and HZK. This match will be her final one before reporting to the Performance Center in Orlando.
The 28-year old Hojo began her career in Stardom, debuting in 2012 after being trained by Fuka. She would go on to be one of the promotion’s top stars, winning the Artist Of Stardom Championship on three different occasions, the Goddess of Stardom Championship on three different occasions, the World of Stardom Championship once, and the Wonder of Stardom Championship once.
With all the recent signings of top indie women to NXT, including Heidi Lovelace (now Ruby Riot), Kimber Lee, Nixon Newell, who will be reporting to the Performance Center soon, and now Hojo, the future of women’s wrestling in WWE and NXT looks to be incredible.
