Update regarding Katsuyori Shibata’s condition

Katsuyori Shibata was taken to hospital due to poor health following his main event match on April 9th at Ryogoku Sumo Hall. He was conscious and able to communicate while being admitted to hospital.

After a medical examination, he was diagnosed with subdural hematoma and surgery was conducted as part of his treatment. He is now recovering following a successful operation.

Updates will be posted as his condition progresses.

I honestly don't know if this is a work or not, but if it's not, that was the last headbutt that Shibata will ever hit. Subdural hematoma is the type of thing that leads to brain damage

Forget that. It should be the last match he ever partakes in.

Meltzer wrote:An update on the situation with Katsuyori Shibata. Unfortunately the news appears to be very bad and that the injuries are not storyline. This is not 100 percent because there are many situations historically where this could be just storyline or a cover for something else, but it appears this is the case and that a combination of dehydration and the trauma of the legitimately skull-on-skull head-butt hospitalized him and at this point it is believed he will never be cleared to wrestle. He is currently in the hospital and is awake, can carry on a conversation, has some memories of the match itself. He initially had some right side paralysis but that is getting better.

via WOR, Dave doesn't think Shibata is ever getting cleared to wrestle again. Sad if true.

With any luck this will signal the end of that backwards-ass "hit me in the head as hard as you can for real and I'll pretend it doesn't hurt" style.

or at least the unprotected one, it's wrestling, it's fake, no reason to do actual headbuts

I'm not just talking about the headbutts. I'm talking about the forearms, too. If you're going to hit someone that hard, at least make it mean something, and don't do fifty-million of them in a single match.

i'm talking about any hits to the head, from headbutts to kicks to forearms, i don't mind the overuse, but no need for them to be shoot hits

I mean... you can make contact, but don't do it full force. The trick in pro wrestling to make it LOOK like it hurts without it really hurting that much. As for kicks... I could be wrong, but I am under the impression that (at least for enzugiris) the onus is on the person taking the kick to get his/her hand up and protect himself/herself.

i think for the most part yeah, but some kicks, like the Sheamus/Galloway style, i rarely see them put their hands up
