Joey Styles Released From WWE

Pro Wrestling Sheet has learned Joey Styles was recently released from WWE.

No word as to when the release went down exactly, but his last tweet was on July 29th — just days after a Facebook Q&A he participated in that was described as Joey’s shoot interview.

Styles was extremely open during the chat and talked about not liking the name of the Universal Championship, hating the 3-man commentary booth and why Vince loves Roman Reigns.

Unclear if Joey’s honesty had anything to do with his release, but the video has since been pulled from WWE’s YouTube and Facebook pages.

Styles was an announcer in WWE from 2005-2008 and then transitioned into a position for the company’s website. He was eventually promoted to Vice President of Digital Media Content.

He was also the famous voice of ECW throughout it’s entire run.

I know it will never happen, but Joey replacing Kevin Kelly would fix so many problems in ROH right now.

This is something that we can say about every non-WWE promotion, him replacing Matthews, Striker, or Kelly would make a lot of people happy all around. ROH and TNA should really consider this

Yeah, but in TNA it would merely be an improvement, as Josh isn't actually hurting the product. He's fine for the TNA look/feel. Kevin Kelly comes across as SOOOO... WWE-style and sterilized in a promotion that has sold itself as being the exact opposite of that. ROH NEEDS a "call the moves" type of announcer. Joey is just about the best there is at that.

may be, but i've seen more people say they don't watch TNA because of Pope/Josh than say that about ROH's commentary

Do people really hate Josh and Pope that much? Maybe it's because they're coming after Taz and Tenay, but I can't possibly understand Josh and Pope being a reason to not watch the show.

definitely a reason, TNA has been pretty good all year otherwise, but Josh is really really annoying. I mean, it's also the reason a lot of people give for not watching RAW and why a lot of people started watching Smackdown again. Commentary can make or break a show.

I'm not disputing that it can make or break a show. I've just found Pope and (especially) Josh to be so non-offense that I can't imagine them breaking a show for someone. They're the best non-NXT or Mauro team on TV.

It's not inconceivable that the would return to doing so.

Didn't even know he was still employed by WWE. Sad though, I s'pose.
