BRM Reviews the 3/2/2016 Lucha Underground

Post by Big Red Machine » Mar 3rd, '16, 12:01

MIL MUERTES WANTS TO FIGHT PENTAGON JR. & PUMA- but Katrina won’t allow it.

Vampiro immediately points out that Mil is not on his throne right now and wonders where he could be.

SEXY STAR vs. KOBRA MOON- 2.75/10
They did stuff. The Mack came out to watch. Then Marty The Moth came out to watch, which distracted Sexy Star and led to her losing. There was no sight- or even hint- of Marty’s sister, and both Sexy Star and The Mack look none the worse for wear after their encounter with her which was recapped at the beginning of this show. Very disappointing.

FAMOUS B. COMMERCIAL- Theory: Famous B. is recruiting the people who are being fed to Matanza.

A REMINDER THAT REY MYSTERIO JR. & DRAGON AZTECA JR. EXIST- good.

KING CUERNO VIDEO- kind of felt like filler

PENTAGON JR. vs. PRICE PUMA- 6.25/10
They had a match that was fine for what it was, which was a stall for time until Mil (seemingly fully healed) could show up and attack them both without it seeming like we were getting cheated out of this match.

MIL SAYS HE’LL DEFEND THE TITLE IN A THREE-WAY NEXT WEEK- seems like a bit of a rush for this.
Also, Catrina and Mil are really on the same page. She was just trying to motivate him in the earlier segment.

AZTEC WARFARE II IN THREE WEEKS- there isn’t enough going on this season for this one to be anywhere near as great as the first one.

LADDER MATCH FOR THE LUCHA UNDERGROUND GIFT OF THE GODS CHAMPIONSHIP: King Cuerno(c) vs. Fenix- 8/10
I love the Temple’s dirty, dingy ladders compared to the brand new shiny ones we get in WWE or the specially-painted logo-encrusted ones we see in TNA. The way those two companies glorify these things (and WWE’s “let’s decorate the ringside area with the appropriate weapons” mentality is part of this, too) makes them feel like the shady, disturbed purveyors of violence that they kayfabe pretend not to be, while the Temple, which actually is an underground fight club, almost feels more respectable than those two big “sports” promotions.

Great show from Lucha Underground.

It all depends on what happens in the next 2 shows which i'm guessing are the 3-way and Fenix vs Mil. I would assume that AW is for the No 1 contendership and they made the 'open invitation' thing, so we may get some debuts (mothra maybe). Plus we already have 4 guys going after MIl

But it wasn't the end prize that made Aztec Warfare so great last year. It was how the pieces fit together.

which kinda do too, there are a bunch of stories that they could tell.

Pentagon, Puma, Muertes

Fenix, Cuerno, Muertes

Mack, Sexy, Marty, and Mothra

Cortez and Joey

Mundo/Cage and Muertes

Chavo and Crew with Texano

Trios champs/ChavoCrew/Ivelisse and co

Numchuck Club and Drago

Except that Muertes won't be in the match, the Sexy Star/Mack/Moth-Family story is being told on a different level, and Fenix/Cuerno feels kind of finished at this point.
