Also, there was a bit of explanation on how the Ian-Vampiro dynamic works.
“THE DRAGON SLAYER” JACK EVANS vs. “THE DAREWOLF” P.J. BLACK- no rating, great segment.
Snatching the mic away from Melissa and giving himself a long-winded ring entrance appears to be Jack’s new gimmick, and it is great. He comes off like such a jerk. “GUYS! I’M TRYING TO TALK!”
In an early candidate for Understatement of the Year, Vampiro said that competitors in this match were “both kind of agile.” They immediately set about proving him to be “kinda” correct.
Then Drago showed up with a mask with gigantic horns, which made him look more like Goat-o and started to swing his nun-chucks around. Jack grabbed a chair and also threw something at Drago. P.J. took advantage of the distraction to hit a Big Ending (which he calls the Black Diamond), but Jack kicked out. The ref went to put the chair away and Drago, who had come down to ringside, went to blow mist into Jack’s eyes, but Jack ducked it and P.J. got blinded, allowing Jack to roll him up for the win and escape with even more heat. Then the understandably angry P.J. picked up Drago’s nun-chucks, glared at Drago, and threw the nun-chucks down in anger. LOVED IT!
FAMOUS B COMMERCIAL- I’ve been sick this week, so I’m not sure if this actually happened or was just fever dream.
KILLSHOT vs. KING CUERNO- 5.5/10
Striker seems outraged that the Gift of the Gods (Championship?) isn’t on the line here. Why would it be on the line? Has Killshot even won a single match yet in LU?
Striker attempted to be fancy by saying something in Spanish, only to result in Vampiro correcting him. That made me laugh.
Cuerno won, then tried to hit his finish again, but Fenix made the save.
EL TEXANO JR. RUNS A GAUNTLET OF CHAVO & THE CREW- 5.25/10
I feel like this could have had some sort of short video bit with one of them and Catrina to set it up.
I’m pretty sure Vampiro dropped an F Bomb on commentary (“if Texano wins, Chavo goes into f*ck-up mode).
Texano beats the first two, then gets beaten by Chavo via Rick Rude/Ultimate Warrior finish using the bull-rope to hold down his legs.
DARIO GIVES US SOME BACKSTORY ABOUT HIS ABUSIVE MOTHER- Dario tried to stand up to their mother, but he wasn’t strong enough to fight back. She came after him with a hot iron, but Matanza saved Dario by hitting their mother with the red bull statue until “she could never hurt us again.”
Black Lotus says “that’s terrible.”
And Dario laughs. “No no no. For me, that’s a happy memory… because on that day, I learned just how much I loved violence.”
I love the way they make Dario out to be both sympathetic and a sick f*ck at the same time.
Now, with this being revealed… I don’t necessarily think it’s all true. Or if it is all true, I don’t think it’s the whole truth. Dario doesn’t seem to me to be the sentimental type. He must have some other reason to be keeping the red bull statue around. Either this was a lie created to misdirect any thoughts Black Lotus may be thinking, or it is a true story, but because of this story, Dario later used the red bull for some other purpose that requires him keeping it around (magic ritual?).
PENTAGON JR. & CATRINA BACKSTAGE- “putting your hands on me was the biggest mistake you ever made.”
Also, Pentagon Jr. vs. Prince Puma II next week!
JOHNNY MUNDO vs. CAGE- 7.25/10
Great match. Cage hit Weapon X and was about to win when
To my amazement, despite being a female Lance Storm trainee, she doesn’t not appear to have an Australian accent.
KING CUERNO TELLS CATRINA HE WANTS HIS TITLE SHOT NEXT WEEK- she says “too bad” because she has him booked to defend his title against Fenix in a Ladder Match. Also, because she is Catrina, she has been fiddling with a crystal ball with a bronzed skull in it. That’s an… extremely Catrina thing to have.
A great episode of Lucha Underground. The only complaint I have is that last week’s cliffhanger seemed to indicate that we would be getting more stuff in the Sexy Star/Marty the Moth/Marty’s Sister story, but it’s possible that what we got last week was actually Cage being killed off.
