There had been speculation that Vince McMahon would bring the Mr. McMahon character back to WWE TV due to the decline in ratings but the decision to bring him back on the December 14th RAW wasn’t made until that Sunday. Word is that Vince was very pleased with how the initial return went. No word yet on his reaction to how this past Monday went but one source believed it fell flat compared to the previous appearance.

On a related note, there was a story backstage that someone recently mentioned to Vince that Kevin Owens had gained weight. Owens has been over and praised for his work as a heel but there’s always concern about talents keeping up with “the look” that Vince prefers. Owens also has the support of Triple H, and we haven’t heard of anything being said to him by officials about his weight.

Because he doesn't have chiselled and? Fuck sake. He's the best heel you have active right now. Do not fuck this up.

That "mold" will never break. It's a very good though obviously flawed M.O. though. Perception comes from vision, and people are always going to be drawn to the "look". Simply because it is subconscious human behavior to be more "pleased" -not even entirely attraction based-by the fit wrestlers-it's just not going to as naturally off-putting on that level.

Summary-you see a fit person you don't pay a lot of extra attention-you see someone who isn't exactly physically ideal you're gonna say "NOPE!", and just change it. Thus in the eyes of the casual "barely a fan" type of viewer. One can not ignore that demographic nor any other obviously. Sucks but it's just how we're encoded within.
When they come, they'll come at what you love.

Except that some of the best heels of the olden days worked because they specifically didn't fit this mold (Abdullah the Butcher, OMG in Mid-South, the Sheik, etc.). Owens has the charisma to be that "exception to the rule" type of guy, just like Joe does on the babyface side.
There is almost nothing that should be treated as an absolute rule with no exceptions.

The difference is those guys had that "giant" thing going for them. So you can't even compare Kevin Owens to those guys-meaning it's more acceptable when they're that size. Therefore neither of those men's charisma has anything to do with the casual channel surfer if they're off-put by the look of them and change the channel before even getting the chance to see or hear any of that.

In the minds of the "I'm gonna continue watching this based upon naturally changing the channel because the first thing I see is a man with some extra based upon the instinctual preference of my mind"-there ain't always gonna be time for that. Will there be others that continue to watch? Yes of course, always. Just as much as those who change it when JOE AND OWENS ARE ON. Therefore causing Vince and company to take notice.

The man that changes channels opposed to who does not is what matters. That's a lost viewer and possible decades long fan.
When they come, they'll come at what you love.

Owens could use his physique to his advantage. He's cocky enough to stand there and give a powerful "You see all these Vince moulders clones walking around? That's not me, but I'm still better than the chiselled WWE mould superstars" style promo.

He is an every man. He's just cocky with it.
Have A Nice Day!
