BRM Reviews the 9/16/2015 Impact (TNA vs. GFW Blow-off)

Post by Big Red Machine » Sep 17th, '15, 01:59

LETHAL LOCKDOWN CONTRACT SIGNING- right. Because when your company is struggling, this is the sort of thing you should be wasting your precious TV time on.
Dixie cut a decent promo. Then Jeff Jarrett cut a promo in which he tried to prove that supporting GFW was good and supporting TNA was bad by saying that even Eric Young, a “TNA Original” (which he actually isn’t even close to being), has chosen to side with GFW over TNA. Unfortunately for Jeff, for almost all of the past ten years, Eric Young’s character has been AT BEST a moron, and at worst, completely insane. And Jeff is telling us that THIS GUY thinks supporting GFW is a smart move.
Then Jeff punched out Borash for no reason. This was a complete and total waste of over ten minutes of TV.

EC III ARRIVES AT THE BUILDING- he has Jeff Hardy acting as his chauffeur, which really doesn’t seem like much of a punishment when you realize that EC III is very rich and probably has a totally awesome car.

CARTER-JARRETT VIDEO PACKAGE- am I the only one who was REALLY annoyed by the lack of home-grown TNA stars featured in the “look how great TNA has been over the years” part of this?
Also, they keep changing their story on what happened. Originally Jeff had said that he was fired by Sting (which is consistent with kayfabe). Then, in THE OPENING SEGMENT OF TONIGHT’S SHOW, they said that Dixie forced Jeff out of power. Now this video package is saying that Jeff “stepped away” from TNA to go found GFW. Which one is it?!

Yeah… I still can’t tell who one of the guys on Team GFW is from that picture (the guy between Sonjay and Mordetzky).

ABYSS vs. MAHABALI SHERA- 3/10
Shera wins after botched interference from Storm.
There was a dude dressed in a Bigfoot costume in the front row. I assume he was a plant, placed there in an attempt to curry favor with Destination America.
Pope told us that anyone who gets Kurt Angle’s stamp of approval goes on to greatness. Does anyone else remember when Kurt Angle was in a stable with Mark Jindrak and Luther Reigns?

EC III & JEFF HARDY SEGMENT- Ethan has made Jeff wear a suit with pictures of Ethan’s face all over it. Ethan wants the fans to stop chanting for Jeff and orders Jeff to tell them to stop. Jeff refuses, so Ethan threatens him, saying that if Ethan fires Jeff from being his personal assistant, then Jeff won’t be able to feed his family. Um… doesn’t Jeff have a contract as a pro wrestler to Total Non-stop Action Wrestling?
Rockstar Spud showed up. I had forgotten he existed. He cut a promo. Ethan cheat-shotted Spud. Spud fought back (if getting one shot in counts as fighting back) but got beaten up by Tyrus. Then Tyrus held Spud while Ethan forced Jeff to punch Spud. The segment was decent for what it was, but I felt like it made Spud look like too much of a chump.

JARRETT & DREW BACKSTAGE- Jeff reveals that the match is now five-on-five, except that apparently EY was supposed to be Team TNA’s fifth guy, so they don’t have a fifth guy anymore. Umm…
1) Since when was this five-on-five? All of the graphics and everything have been showing
4-on-4.
2) If it was five-on-five the whole time, why would Dixie not tell Drew? Or the production people, so that they could adequately hype up the big match on her TV show?
3) If it was five-on-five the whole time, why the hell would the TNA guys pick ERIC YOUNG, who TURNED ON THEM LAST WEEK, to be their fifth guy?
Josh and Pope wonder if Team TNA will be able to find a fifth guy in time. I’d f*cking hope so. There is at least one more match before then. And if there is absolutely no one else in the locker room that is willing to fight for TNA, then why the company SHOULD go out of business.

FATAL FOUR WAY MATCH FOR THE KNOCKOUTS TITLE: Brooke Tessmacher(c) vs. Awesome Kong vs. Gail Kim vs. Lei’D Tapa (w/Royal Red)- 6.5/10 (and I might watch it again tomorrow to re-rate because it is currently 3 am).
Why would TNA book Tapa in a title match? Not only is she a GFW person, but SHE DOESN’T HAVE ANY F*CKING WINS!

DREW GIVES HIS TEAM A PEP TALK- laughter inducingly bad.

EC III YELLS AT JEFF BACKSTAGE- Apparently Spud has been given a world title match next week (I guess getting beaten up qualifies you to be the #1 contender in TNA), and EC III somehow thinks Jeff is responsible. That was f*cking dumb. Haven’t we established that Dixie is in charge?

LETHAL LOCKDOWN MATCH FOR CONTROL OF TNA: Team GFW (Jeff Jarrett, Chris Mordetzy, Sonjay Dutt, Eric Young, & Brian Myers) vs. Team TNA (Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley, The Wolves, & Bram)- 6.75/10
The fifth guy who comes out to save TNA is… Bram. Yeah. Awkward.
ROH vs. CZW this was not. Bram’s spot felt so generic it wasn’t even worth having the fifth guy mystery build in there.

This was a show dominated by two angles that I just don’t give a sh*t about. If you are into those angles, you’ll probably really enjoy this show. Also, you should go out of your way to see the women’s match.

I 100% disagree with that. This made the show and match feel super important. you go in to the show with those two promos and what Borash said (plus the doomsday clock) and you suddenly feel that TNA may not win tonight. Now, what would you substitute this with? There is not another feud worth featuring here. Roode vs PJ would probably be the only thing and that is not necessary.

EC III ARRIVES AT THE BUILDING- he has Jeff Hardy acting as his chauffeur, which really doesn’t seem like much of a punishment when you realize that EC III is very rich and probably has a totally awesome car.
You have to realize that Hardy had to take a bus to pick up the car and then to Ethan's hotel.

Yeah… I still can’t tell who one of the guys on Team GFW is from that picture (the guy between Sonjay and Mordetzky).
it's 3AM, i undestand

ABYSS vs. MAHABALI SHERA- 3/10

Jindrak is golden in CMLL

EC III & JEFF HARDY SEGMENT- Ethan has made Jeff wear a suit with pictures of Ethan’s face all over it. Ethan wants the fans to stop chanting for Jeff and orders Jeff to tell them to stop. Jeff refuses, so Ethan threatens him, saying that if Ethan fires Jeff from being his personal assistant, then Jeff won’t be able to feed his family. Um… doesn’t Jeff have a contract as a pro wrestler to Total Non-stop Action Wrestling?
Part of the job is following up with stipulations so he not following orders, is kinda like not doing your job

Spud IS a chump. a chump that wins because he has heart

JARRETT & DREW BACKSTAGE- Jeff reveals that the match is now five-on-five, except that apparently EY was supposed to be Team TNA’s fifth guy, so they don’t have a fifth guy anymore. Umm…
Josh and Pope wonder if Team TNA will be able to find a fifth guy in time. I’d f*cking hope so. There is at least one more match before then. And if there is absolutely no one else in the locker room that is willing to fight for TNA, then why the company SHOULD go out of business.
From what i took in the show, it was changed by Jarrett during the night. The thing you should be arguing is why was the match changed if the contract was already signed?

EC III YELLS AT JEFF BACKSTAGE- Apparently Spud has been given a world title match next week (I guess getting beaten up qualifies you to be the #1 contender in TNA), and EC III somehow thinks Jeff is responsible.
hey, it worked for Sting and it's worked for a bunch of guys

I liked that it was Bram who joined the team, but i felt the execution of his reveal was terrible. Having said that, that was one of the better Lethal Lockdowns i can remember for years, maybe Fortune vs Immortal was better, haven't watched in years.

This was a show dominated by two angles that I just don’t give a sh*t about. If you are into those angles, you’ll probably really enjoy this show. Also, you should go out of your way to see the women’s match.
I loved the show, aside from the Abyss match, everything was great. Felt like a really important show even knowing that Doomsday clock hadn't hit 12 yet.

The doomsday clock isn't relevant. The stip is that Jarrett will get to run TNA, not that he will get to shut it down.
A contract signing won't help make a blow-off feel important if the feud has been as lacking as this one.

Then why was he able to disobey EC III last week. Also, even if Jeff gets fired, are we to assume that he doesn't have enough money to feed his family and won't be able to find another job? He's JEFF HARDY. He's a huge star.

Spud IS a chump. a chump that wins because he has heart
Not this much of a chump.

JARRETT & DREW BACKSTAGE- Jeff reveals that the match is now five-on-five, except that apparently EY was supposed to be Team TNA’s fifth guy, so they don’t have a fifth guy anymore. Umm…

That's too. Either way, it was COMPLETELY F*CKING STUPID.

And look where that has gotten them.

"And look where it has gotten them"

WWE?

Don't start a sentence with "and" btw. In fact-that's not a sentence. It's a fragment and an incomplete/incorrect sentence at best. Come on college boy! Don't let the tattooed mother fucker school you!
When they come, they'll come at what you love.

the doomsday clock was relevant in the sense that this could had been TNA's final episodes and a match like TNA vs GFW could had been a way to go out. The stip is not that Jeff will run TNA, is that Jeff will own TNA, which he would obviously kill or sell in order to support GFW

he's also a huge former drug addict with problems with the law. If Big Show and HBK have had enough financial problems to sell out, I can totally believe Jeff has too

Spud IS a chump. a chump that wins because he has heart
Not this much of a chump.
it was still a 2-on-1 situation not counting hardy

true i guess, RAW ratings have been terrible since Sting got that title shot out of nowhere

Except that we knew that wouldn't happen because they have already announced Bound For Glory.

Don't get me wrong: those angles were stupid, too. But in this case they showed that Jeff could disobey Ethan last week with no consequences whatsoever.

Spud IS a chump. a chump that wins because he has heart

It was still one punch. It felt like they undid everything they had worked for with Spud.

Except that the Raw ratings were bad before that as well.

TNA is not necessarily a canon show and could had been THE closing show. that is a PPV i'd buy + this was taped loong before

Ethan let it passed, the only who can go and say that Jeff is not doing his job is Ethan.

Not as bad as this week. I'm just saying that this is a thing that happens or has happened in every promotion and shitting on TNA for doing it is a bit nitpicking. it's not the proper way to book, but if we're gonna shit on TNA for that, we should shit on everyone too

Exactly. This was taped long ago. That means that the plan would have had to be for GFW to win all along and shut down TNA, and if that was going to happen, we'd have heard about it.
Also, if they were planning on closing down, they wouldn't be announcing house shows.

Clearly Ethan was unhappy last week.

TNA does sh*t like that (meaning title matches with very little build) A LOT more than anyone else. WWE's build isn't always good, but it is always there.
