Mid Week Wrestling Review

Good: the good i'm giving it to contender build up, I think NXT did some great work on building Enzo/Cass and Bliss, who at this point, while really over, had never been about chasing titles. I feel this week was the strong point where we saw them go from roster filler to credible contenders.

Bad: Leave it to big corporate WWE to make someone's character like CJ Parker, who is promoting to "Eat local", Save Energy, you know, save the planet, be a bad guy. Fuck You WWE, when the world ends, you're the one i'm blaming. Honorable mention to Riley, you dumbass, you're promo was not supposed to be about you not getting a chance, in kayfabe you're just doing other work, it's not that you're not getting chances.

Change: It took me a singles match from Carmella to realize how annoying her voice is, her pre-match talking is baaad, I hate to say this, but we need Enzo out there. I do have to say that her match with Bliss proved that NXT don't only have better women's wrestling, but they're also far hotter than the main roster divas.
Image
Good: Fucking Johnny Mundo and King Cuerno, i could watch these guys fight all day. Hope there will be more than this match. Props to LU for giving us these main events without commercial interruptions.

Bad: I'm feeling that LU is rushing in a bunch of high stakes matches and stipulation matches, to a point I know that since they don't have a 'PPV' like show, they can just run these matches on normal shows, but giving us a cage match tonight and a casket match next week seems overwhelming, not complaining about how awesome these matches have been.

Change: I probably wouldn't have broken Argenis' arm, unless he's not coming back at all, or coming back for revenge at one point, I would have rather used some other jobber. Argenis is a great worker that can come and give you a great match when necessary, worth not treating him as a jobber.
Image
Good: Top Prospect Finals, awesome match and the ending with The Embassy, HoT, Decade, and I think Brutal Bob out there coming out to get their hands on the winner was a really nice touch. I hoped for Ferrara to win, but oh well...

Bad: This show was taped January 24, 2015 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Anniversary show was a month later, and it's been 2 weeks since that show. I shouldn't be watching shows from Jan 24. This is something that pisses me off from ROH, you wanna do Pre-tapings, that's cool, everyone does, but keep the fucking continuity with the live events!

Change: In a weird way, I felt the opening match was a huge deal because you had the Addiction and Lethal in the same match, but then you also had Diesel, and nothing against him, but it felt like he didn't belong all that much. For change i'd like to see someone else join the HoT to team with Diesel and actually become a tag team contender. Maybe one of the guys that where in the top prospects Tourny. Also, as a side note, Truth followed the code of honor, i feel liked i missed something here
Image
Pending, I'm not sure if i'll watch it so far.

Promotion of the Week: Once again, Lucha Underground takes it. ROH was really really good this week, but the Bad of the week really killed it to me. NXT was a good build up show and some good work inside the ring, but nothing else.

MVP of the Week: King Cuerno is this week's MVP, I had wanted to give it to him for a while and he finally gets it. Even though he lost, he just looked like a top contender in that match.

I appear to be in the minority on this, but I think ROH has actually done an excellent job recently of making sure that matches feel relevant to the current "time frame" even if they are air weeks after the big show that that specific TV taping as a whole was designed to set up. If you're not giving the Top Prospect Tournament winner a TV Title shot at the anniversary show, then that match can wait until after the anniversary show to air. I think the best job they did with this was the Tag Wars tapings in November where things were structured in such a way that they could fit in either before Final Battle (when the show was taped) or after it (when the shows aired).

yeah, some matches like the top prospect match is ok because it wasn't mentioned before, but the other two matches do show that they're from before the PPV. It's natural that after a big show, you wanna see the outcome of the big show, but here i just don't feel i'm getting any follow up by watching the tv shows

I get what you're saying about wanting follow-up, but what about the other matches made them seem like they were particularly from before the PPV? The Addiction vs. House of Truth was just and undercard tag match that works at any time, while the Corino-Whitmer angle actually seems like it should be from after the PPV as it is Whitmer moving into a new angle after his loss to Roddy.

WOW. I think we disagree on every single thing here with the exception of the women's wrestling in NXT being better than it is on the main roster, and that they did a good job building Alexa Bliss up as a contender.

The Colin & Enzo match was just blah. They didn't do anything new or impressive. Alexa Bliss, on the other hand did do some new stuff, but I'd like to see her facing someone like Emma who both won't be hurt by the loss and also isn't green as the Hulk's taint.

CJ Parker is a heel not because he's telling people to save energy, but because he's a dick about it. Like the difference between babyface Punk and heel Punk.

Riley's promo was the Promo of the Year!

Carmella's voice isn't so bad (then again, I'm used to New York accents), and her verbiage could be better, but certainly isn't bad.

No one in NXT even comes close to perfection that is Summer Rae, and Nattie is the clear #2. Maybe NXT is hotter on average because they don't have Tamina, Rosa, and Eva Marie dragging them down but still... the top on the main roster is MUCH hotter than the top on NXT.

It's not that they make the matches look out of place, but i just watch this show knowing that nothing that i'm watching matters because I already saw the PPV that is in the future of this show, kinda like the show leading to the anniversary show that just felt like a bunch of filler matches. I get the suspension of disbelief, but I know the show was taped long time before, I know reDragon are not IWGP champs anymore, commentary saying that the Knights hadn't been this close before, stuff like that shouldn't pass by continuity standards

Yeah, neither match was that good, but at least they worked it out so that they both ended their shows looking stronger than they were before. Enzo/Cass defeated the former champs and Bliss looked great.

Still, leave it to WWE to make heel characters with these messages.

Promo of the year!? Heyman's RAW promo was leagues better. Then again i've never liked Riley, he should have stayed retired. He has sucked ever since i saw him.

I think that's the main reason we differ on Carmella, but even then, i felt she coming out and doing Enzo's gig without the rest of the guys felt weird

I don't particularly find Rae or Natty that hot, i mean, they are, but I still find other girls far better. I personally find Lynch or Bliss better than most of the main roster divas.

It's not Enzo's gig. It's the group's gig.

And Bliss and Becky are definitely three and four (in that order), but nowhere clsoe to Summer or Nattie.

if those wins and loses are to matter, then ROH needs to do better work on making sure they don't make those matches look out of continuity. Take one from TNA and do alternate commentary, that would fix 80% of the problems

I agree about the alternate commentary, but I don't think it was really an issue here. If you don't follow New Japan you wouldn't have known about the title switch, and everything else fits in just as well before the PPV as it does after.
