Eddie Edwards suffered a broken heel that as of last night looked like it would require surgery from an injury on a Sunday TNA PPV taping.

The broken heel came from donig a backflip off the apron to the floor and the foot gave out on landing while doing a singles match against usual tag team partner Davey Richards.

Therie is no word at this point on the recovery from the surgery, but it is believed to be significant, which affects not just Edwards but also Richards.
Hidden text.
Edwards & Richards were to be recognized as TNA tag team champions effective with a match taped in Manchester, England on 1/30 to air on 3/6.

With the injury, it appears there will have to be something to fill the vacancy at the next set of tapings in Orlando

And with Davey they got lucky that he healed so quickly.

On the bright side, they could push Davey big as a singles guy, then bring Eddie back as the jealous former partner.

It'd be cool to have Davey do a babyface version of Doug Williams "the X-division is about wrestling, not acrobatics" deal from 2010. Have him kick the sh*t out of the Crazzy Steves and Zema Ions of the world and focus his matches more on groundwork. You can still match him up against guys like Ki and Sanada and Manik and Tigre Uno and have it totally rock.

The only obstacle would be getting the title off of Spud without making Davey a heel (let's face it: Spud is more of a Zema Ion than a Low Ki), but I think you could do that well by having Ethan and Tyrus injure Spud, forcing him to vacate the title. This will let Mandrews get the chance to step up and be more than Spud's sidekick, and when Spud returns (saving Mandrews from the same vicious double-team move that put him out), he has more of a reason to go after Ethan than ever before because Ethan cost him his greatest professional accomplishment: the X-Division Title (and an excuse to put off Spud's rematch).
Having Davey win the vacant title is also a good way to get over the "new start" idea of Davey's gimmick.

i'd be down with that idea, it would be a long road to destination X where Davey or Eddie could challenge for the title. I'm not sure where they are in their tapings, maybe Eddie will be good enough for the next set

meltzer said he almost certainly won't be because foot surgery often takes a while to recover from, and even more so with Eddie's style.
