BRISCOES PROMO- a good promo, and very Briscoes.
All of these matches were from ROH Death Before Dishonor XII: Night 1, which makes it all the more baffling that they haven’t put the VOD up already, because you’d think they’d want to get that out there before giving big matches (like this week’s two matches and the big Elgin-Silas world title match next week) away for free.
AJ STYLES vs. KYLE O’REILLY- 8.5/10
Just as awesome as we all knew it would be. They told a great story with Kyle working over AJ’s arm and AJ trying to hit the Styles Clash. Fantastic selling by AJ, too.
DECADE SEGMENT- They set this up with a pre-match promo by Jimmy Jacobs explaining everything: The Decade want to make sure that the next generation of ROH stars learn the respect the old-school way, so they are beating it into them. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to have worked, so Roddy called in Adam Pearce- one of the veterans who beat respect into them when they were younger, to beat the respect into their proteges/young boys.
Then they showed us a few clips of Pearce beating the crap out of Tadarius REALLY stiffly, and finally Pearce getting the win with the Piledriver. Then we saw Jacobs giving Tadarius a lecture after the match, but also praising him as someone with a lot of potential.
This was fine and all, but I really don’t see how it helps advance anything, and showing it to us in such short clips almost seems pointless.
MICHAEL ELGIN PROMO- not so good, but that is in part due to his decision to play off of Silas’ stupid “last real man” gimmick. It did serve its purpose build to his ROH World Title defense against Silas next week, so I guess there’s that.
THE BRISCOES vs. THE YOUNG BUCKS- 8/10
Exactly what you’d expect from these two teams. All action, but all awesome, and some great nearfalls.
ROH has been putting on an AWESOME string of shows lately, and this has been the best one yet! Possibly the best episode of ROH TV so far.

for someone who usually complains that TNA and WWE outs awesome matches for free, why aren't you saying anything that ROH just put these two (PPV main event) quality matches for free?

ROH is a different business model. They are only doing a few PPVs a year, and all of the events that aren't strictly TV tapings are eventually sold on DVD. Especially where AJ Styles is concerned ROH doesn't have enough PPVs a year to put all of his big matches on PPV. Also, with AJ in particular, he is their biggest draw for mainstream fans, and so they need him on TV, facing their big stars.cero2k wrote:for someone who usually complains that TNA and WWE outs awesome matches for free, why aren't you saying anything that ROH just put these two (PPV main event) quality matches for free?
Bucks-Briscoes as a random one-off would work fine on PPV, but there is no feud here, so I'm fine with it on TV. It's not like when TNA gives away something like Kurt vs. EC III away on free TV after building up Kurt's revenge for months when they have a PPV two weeks away. If they gave Michael Elgin's title win away on TV or something like that Roddy vs. Elgin match from Final Battle 2012 that they'd been building up for a whole year, you'd see me complaining.
