Devil's Advocate: Post Things People Don't Agree With

Post by Bob-O » Sep 7th, '14, 19:54

We're all free-thinking, often times stubborn, individuals around here. Let's celebrate that! Maybe it's something you truly believe and would defend to the end, or maybe you're just a troll and like to get people fired up. What are some things you find yourself defending, or just keeping to yourself to avoid the hassle? Guilty pleasures? Cans of Worms? I'm actually quite interested. Post below!

Remember, these are all just opinions, open for discussion but not criticism. Be respectful!

I'll get things started.

Andre the Giant was a terrible wrestler and I have no idea how he achieved "Statue Status". He couldn't wrestle. He was an awful promo. He just kind of stood there while people bounced off of him. "Oh no! Andre's tangled up in the ropes again! I wonder what's gonna happen!?"

I get times have changed, but were there no other tall people back then? Had Khali made his debut 40 years ago, would they be making statues out of him, too? I just don't get it.

I remember getting myself into some trouble with this one, but I still fully stand by it:
http://54.88.31.224/thewrestlingrevolut ... =18&t=4500

People overrated puro way too much, and tend to underrate WWE.

Also,Misawa's overrated, Kevin Nash is underrated, and Maryse wasn't that hot.

oh god a got tons.

1. TNA > WWE at least for 2014
2. Kofi Kingston sucks and should've been fired a long time ago
3. Roman Reigns is not that good and is soon to be shoved down our throats .
4. I didn't like Daniel Bryan's rise to the title, I'm 99% sure everything after the RR that it was damage control because they simply fucked up.
5. I miss Punk, but i'm glad he left WWE
6. Chyna looked quite hot at WM17
7. Elgin is good, but i don't like him as champion
8. I'm glad the Streak is over
9. Colt Cabana sucks and should realize that his constant bitching about being fired from WWE and not wanting to change his style is what fucked him up
10. I'm really hipster about PWG and don't want it to get bigger than what it is right now

I have issues guys

From what I've heard, Andre was a lot better in the 70's and early 80's before his acromegaly became crippling.
Also, I think standards were a bit lower back then, if you were big enough.

2. Really? Really?
3. It all depends if he improves or not. If he doesn't deliver in big singles matches, it will feel like he is getting pushed down our throats. If he starts to show a steady improvement, I think people will be happier with him.
4. So what if it was damage control? They made the right choice and all of the stuff they did was good.
9. I don't think this one even counts as something most people don't agree with.

Miss Elizabeth was like a 5 at best.
Dutch Mantell got lucky in Puerto Rico, and whatever booking skill he may have barely factored into the equation.

I go back and forth on this one a lot. Sometimes I feel this way, and sometimes I feel almost the opposite. I guess the first question to answer (and this could be a whole topic on it's own ) is "what are the boundaries of the Attitude Era?"

2. yeah, spot monkey with zero mic skills who has failed at ALL the intents of WWE pushing him. He only has a job because Morrison and Benjamin left.

3. he would need to improve amazingly over Dean and Seth for fans to recognize that yeah, he deserves to break Kane's record, to win rumbles, to defeat brock at WM, etc etc

people only seem to remember the good things about the AE, but rarely bring up the amount of trash product that was also going on. either way, the biggest names in wrestling since Hogan and Randy came out of that era, so something must had worked.

I'll agree to that, especially if we're building statues out of Andre The Giant. Good promo, great presence, and hid his limitations very well (especially when it mattered).

Unless I'm missing something, I have never seen an Andre The Giant highlight reel that that even gave a glimpse of his ring work. Need 90 seconds of Andre's best stuff?

-The footage of him talking to Vince in an ugly suit
-Riding to the ring with Heenan in the little mini ring at Wrestlemania 3
-Choking Bob Uecker
-Covering Mean Gene's face with his marshmallow hand
-Riding a 3 Wheeler at his ranch
-Lots of standing.

Let's build the motherfucker a statue.

I've only had Colt in small doses, but he cracks me up.
cero2k wrote:8. I'm glad the Streak is over
Me too. I think he should have lost to Punk, or just retired after his 2nd match with HBK.
cero2k wrote:4. I didn't like Daniel Bryan's rise to the title, I'm 99% sure everything after the RR that it was damage control because they simply fucked up.
75% Damage Control, 25% Filling in for CM Punk.
cero2k wrote:2. yeah, spot monkey with zero mic skills who has failed at ALL the intents of WWE pushing him. He only has a job because Morrison and Benjamin left.
After the Orton thing, I thought the only reason he had a job was because they were trying to keep Punk happy. I think the only reason he survived this round of cuts is because they needed a vet to add credibility to the Big E/Xavier Woods thing.

I always think I like The Attitude Era until I try to play video games from that era (WWF Attitude, Wrestlemania 2000, No Mercy) and I find myself saying "...this is it?... who did I even like back then!?..."

I think a lot of it has to do with how many people started here. The first wrestling you see, whatever era hooked you, I think is always held on a pedestal by the fan. Since there were SO MANY fans at the time, this era gets a lot more credit than it deserves. It also didn't hurt that The Attitude Era was in full swing when the ratings shifted back to WWE's favor. All these people that praise The Attitude era I think are confusing "good wrestling show" with "better than Nitro".

I started during Rock'n'Wrestling Connection... and it was bad too in hindsight... but they'll always be "the good old days" to me.

OK.. so hear me out here. I was about to say NWO Liz was pretty hot... but no... while looking for evidence I realized she looks just like Dixie Carter.

No shame, my brother. That was an awesome era! Nostalgia aside, that's probably my favorite.

Me too. I like listening to Vince Russo's side of things. I think there's still a place for him in today's WWE. Triple H seems to have a grasp on what people want to see and would be a good "Russo Filter". I think if paired together with the current roster the two of them could put out some really good TV.

Playing devil's advocate is one thing, but at this point you're just encouraging people to worship Satan.
Russo should not be given any creative input whatsoever, because, as history has proven, he SUCKS at it. I can see trying to use him to work with people one-on-one to explore what their character might do in a certain situation, but he should not be allowed anywhere near real creative power. Just filtering out Russo's 9,999 sh*tty ideas to find the one good one would be a ridiculous drain on the time of Triple H or anyone who gets the job of filtering out his crap. It would be much more time-efficient, probably cheaper, and would draw less ire from fans if they just hired someone who knew what he or she was doing.

Yet, when he's just talking candidly, shooting the bs, I like what he has to say. Maybe I'm just 'drinking the cool aid', but I think it used in the right capacity he might have something to offer.
