WWE Capitalizing on the Social Media
WWE Capitalizing on the Social Media
I saw this idea on Reddit, and I figured I'd bring it here to see what you guys think about it.
Imagine
the Hardcore Title's 24/7 Rule + WWE App + Twitter = a real time 24/7 rule where you get hints that something is about to get down and then you can checkout the happenings in the WWE App.
what do you guys think? Would it work? or would it fail?

I just think they're overdoing this Social media thing; pushing it waaay too hard. I still don't understand how trending and being hot on social media makes you any more money

In and of itself, it doesn't. The hope is that people will see that their friends are tweeting about something and go check it out, but I don't think that will ever work for pro wrestling because of the stigma it has.badnewzxl wrote:THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN AWESOME!cero2k wrote:I saw this idea on Reddit, and I figured I'd bring it here to see what you guys think about it.

I feel the same; and bc of this, it comes off as a desperate attempt to look popular. It's like the teenage girl who invites everyone to her bday party just so there'll be a bunch of ppl there and she looks cool. Never been my kinda thing....Big Red Machine wrote:In and of itself, it doesn't. Not really if it's the talent that's dropping the hints in character.Big Red Machine wrote:I don't think it would work. Any hint that something is about to happen would just crap on kayfabe.
24/7 Champ wrote:Great workout! Headed back to the hotel for some shut-eye...
WWE.com wouldn't have to crap on kayfabe, they'd just have to "keep us up to date" on the champ's social media activity. I'd love the crap out of this!Challenger wrote: @24/7 Champ - You're staying at the Double Tree, aren't you?

Re: WWE Capitalizing on the Social Media
Social Media = Exposure.
Justin Bieber, discoverd on social media. You mat not like him, but he's sold alot of records and made lot of people alot of money.
My point there is, th anything can blow up on Social Media, Susan Boyle was just a British signing phenomenon and then BAM! Social media took her worldwide.
More exposure = more money.
It's just free advertising every company now has a Twitter and hashtags, every company now has a Facebook for people to like, if somebody is talking about a product or brand, someone else is going to to try it, and if they like it, talk about it, it's a non stop cycle of free advertising.
The whole thing is just good business.
As for whether the hardcore title would work... under these circumstances, maybe. But they'd have to be really creative. So if they were to have a title change at a random point in the week, it has to be in a random place, under seemingly random circumstances with a camera phone effect, it woyuld have to feel spontaneous and unexpected, and then on Raw or Smackdown, they could just run a "here's what went down when the Hardcore champion went to Wal-Mart"
It would either work convincingly if you gave it your all. Or fail badly and be comedy skits like the Crash Holly stuff.
But social media overall is here to stay.

Yes, social media=exposure , but singing is a normally accepted form of entertainment. It doesn't have the stigma that wrestling has.XIV wrote:Social Media = Exposure.

Re: WWE Capitalizing on the Social Media
The thing with social media that people tend to misunderstand is that a user only has to take what they want from it.
So yes Wrestling has a stigma, but it can also help those who perhaps stopped watching wrestling to rediscover it as well as potential new fans or casual fans to watch more.
Everybody else who hold the stigma can choose to ignore.
The fact that various items from the shows appear to trend every week is a sign that social media is working, if only to get fans talking to each other and debating. Most don't realise specialist sites like this exist, so they go about it on Twitter and Facebook.

Bieber was found through Youtube; Youtube is social media? I understand FB and Twitter, but I just think of youtube as a video site; like Worldstarhiphop and ebaum's.XIV wrote:Social Media = Exposure.

I don't know about the other two, but YouTube's big draw (originally) was user-uploadable content.badnewzxl wrote:Bieber was found through Youtube; Youtube is social media? Re: WWE Capitalizing on the Social Media
I do call YouTube social media. Because just like Facebook or twitter. Any user can upload any thing they choose (within reason of course).
News and rumour and gossip and other stuff has never been so widely available until the era of social media. Most companies use it as an advertising platform.
Back to my point. It's good for business.
It might not be good for the show to some people. But it's business.
