BRM Reviews Kayfabe Commentaries Guest Booker with Raven

Post by Big Red Machine » Dec 2nd, '12, 08:48

Raven was not afraid to admit that he was going this off the top of his head... and it showed. He would constantly go back and change things (oh, yeah, we forgot about Dreamer! What has he been doing all this time?), and would jump around a lot, which made things hard to follow. There was even a point where he blatantly admitted that he had no idea where he was going with one of his angles, and he seemed to lose track of things easily. Raven said that he was doing this off the top of his head because it was "more fun for me that way." It might be more fun for you, Raven... but it makes for a less enjoyable DVD experience for the viewer.

Raven was supposed to book Hall and Nash in ECW from June 1996 until the Barely Legal Pay-Per-View in April 1997, which he did... mostly. He even decided to bring X-Pac in, too. Nothing he booked was bad... but nothing was particularly amazing either. I enjoyed what he did with Scott Hall and Terry Funk, but the rest of it wasn't too amazing. The thing that pissed me off, though, is that Raven only actually told you the finish at the PPV for one the three angles he was booking. The other two he just doesn't finish!

This DVD was also plagued by the usual atrocious Kayfabe Commentaries production. A screen with the entire roster listed would randomly pop up at times, which was not only annoying, but also entirely irrelevant, as Raven only used himself, his lackeys, Hall, Nash, Waltman, Dreamer, Dr. Death, Terry Funk, and (towards the end) the Sandman (with others like Terry Gordy being mentioned once or twice). There were certainly some kernels of booking knowledge on this DVD (especially about how to bring someone in to a promotion), but they are not enough to make this DVD worth buying. Probably worth renting, but nothing more.
