I've been watching wrestling since I was 5 years old. Watching the likes of The Rock, Stone Cold, Triple H, and The Undertaker go toe to toe in sports entertainment's biggest venues and spectacles like Wrestlemania. As I grew up, I would always stay up late on Monday nights for WWE Raw is War and then on Thursday for WWE Smackdown.
It wasn't until I hit high school that I first learned a little bit of ASL (American Sign Language). My friends would fingerspell anything they were saying by their side, and I thought that was awesome. So I signed up for ASL at my high school and have been signing ever since (around 6 years or so).
Sign language and the Deaf community have been such a big part of my life that I even went to college to become an interpreter, finishing up classes in June of 2011 when the college dropped the program.
I have a good number of Deaf friends and a good 75% of them love wrestling, but when the DVDs come out for a PPV, they miss out on the commentary and the promos due to the DVDs not having a subtitles option.
This is important because the WWE is not producing their wonderful product so that everyone can enjoy it. They are only specified on hearing people, and without captioning/subtitles, the Deaf portion of the WWE Universe end up missing out on key parts of stories and character development of any given WWE Superstar.
