BRM Reviews the 8/18/2012 ROH

CORNETTE MAKES AN ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE TAG TEAM TITLE SITUATION- they finally got around to addressing this on TV.

SARA DEL REY vs. PRINCESS MIA YIM- 4/10
Good opener, action-wise. Maria jumps Death Rey after the match.

ADAM COLE PROMO- short and sweet

TRUTH MARTINI, JIM CONRETTE, & EDDIE EDWARDS SEGMENT-

NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH FOR AN ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH IN CHICAGO AT DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR X: Eddie Edwards vs. Rhino (w/Truth Martini)- 7.25/10
Great match, and good booking here, too- but not in the way I usually mean when I say that (I was eh on the referee stoppage finish). ROH is giving Rhino a title shot at one of their major shows of the year. Rhino has been with ROH for about a year now, but really hasn't had any great matches. This match let fans know that Rhino still has it, and that his match with Steen should be very exciting.
That Gore into the barricade spot was awesome. When I finally picked my jaw up off the floor, my first thought was "I need to steal that for the EWA at some point."

INSIDE ROH PROMOS- Rhett was good, Haas was decent, and Bennett was eh. Rhino and Martini were great, but, IMO, it was too quick to believably have their part of this already put together. Also, hooray for Six Man Mayhem next week!

ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: Kevin Steen(c) (w/Jimmy Jacobs) vs. Homicide- 7/10
Nice little pre-match exchange. This was great for the short amount of time it was given, and the dirty finish sets up for Steen vs. Cide No DQs at some point down the line.

Overall, a great episode of ROH.

i really don't understand why Rhino will get the shot, i'm all for it, but ROH is jumping through hoops to make Steen a heel, and they put him against a heel.

Because it makes kayfabe sense. Rhino is tough, and Cornette wants the belt off of Steen. It also lets them get one more title defense for Steen, which is important. Steen is going through the roster decently quickly. He has already beaten Davey, Eddie, Roddy, Cide, That is most of the top of the singles roster already. People get tired of seeing the same matches too often, and this allows them to add in an additional show before having to recycle. If Steen doesn't lose to Elgin, I wouldn't be surprised to see each Briscoe get a title shot at some point in the fall.
