BRM Reviews the 7/7/2012 ROH

Post by Big Red Machine » Aug 4th, '12, 21:27

JAY LETHAL PROMO- why was he hyping up Best in the World 2012? That show happened a few weeks ago.

MICHAEL ELGIN PROMO & STUFF WITH RODDY- good

JAY LETHAL vs. MICHAEL ELGIN (w/Truth Martini)- 6.5/10

AFTERMATH WITH RODDY & ELGIN- great

INSIDE ROH SEGMENT- good. This was much different than the usual “Inside ROH” segment.

STEEN & CORNETTE SEGMENT- Very good. The biggest failing in this angle with Steen and Cornette, IMO, has been that Steen really hasn’t felt like “Wrestling’s Worst Nightmare.” In order for us to believe Cornette’s assertion that having Steen in the company (and especially as champion) could be its doom, we need some evidence. So far in 2012, we haven’t seen the walking public relations Sword of Damocles that 2010 Kevin Steen was. He hasn’t smack fans’ drinks over, or used a fan’s phone to take a picture of his genitals, licked things, etc. While we didn’t actually see it, hearing this anecdote about Steen threatening a potential sponsor is the sort of thing that ROH needs to play up for this angle to work.

ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: Kevin Steen(c) (w/Jimmy Jacobs) vs. Eddie Edwards- 7.25/10
Steen putting Eddie through the announcer’s table looked way too intentional to not warrant a DQ, but other than that, great match.

Overall, a great episode of ROH

this is why i dislike ROH TV, it's like it happens in it's own universe regardless of what happens on live shows.

Not necessarily "in it's own universe." This was just them not being as up to date as they should. There is no reason that they couldn't have had Jay tape another promo, or instead used the time to plug a new DVD release or something.

ok, another universe is an exaggeration, but it's really hard to follow roh tv and roh live shows side by side because of stuff like this

I haven't found it that difficult.

i find myself feeling that roh tv is really outdated by the time i watch it. particularly with title changes or big developments like Sara's return

I think that a large part of that has to do with how many PPV's they have had recently. Since early March, they have had , the 10 Anniversary Show, Showdown in the Sun, Border Wars, & Best in the World: Hostage Crisis, with, at most, about five weeks between each. Between this and the Road Rage, the TV hasn't been able to keep up with current events particularly well. For things not related to PPVs, though, such as Storm vs. Bennett III, which was taped over a moth ago but we will get to see sometime this weekend, it doesn't feel outdated at all to me.

I have seen the spoilers for the first episode of TV that was taped on 8/3, and, by my calculations, that should actually start airing this coming weekend, and that stuff (plus the tag title tournament matches, the first round of which were also taped this weekend), is all building up to Death Before Dishonor, which is in September, so all of that should be very current. I think, now that they have better pacing with the iPPVs, things will start feeling more current. It definitely felt current when they were building towards Final Battle 2011 and the 10th Anniversary Show.
