How Did You First Get Into Pro Wrestling??

Post by Big Bad Booty Daddy » Jun 20th, '12, 16:03

So we are all on this forum due to TWO factors

1) Mr Cero2K

AND

2) Our love for pro wrestling.

Now as much as id love to write a topic about Cero im afraid i cant. What i want to know is how did u get into pro wrestling??

For me i was introduced to it by my dad. In the 70s my granddad would take my dad to watch british wrestling. The likes of Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks, Kendo Nagasaki, "Mr Tv" Jackie Pallo, Leon Harris all became household names. Unfortunatly for british wrestling when the papers were told by a bitter ex wrestler that wrestling was "fake" or "scripted" it put an end to british wrestling.

In the late 80s early 90s my dad came across WCW. I remember watching it with him and being drawn into it by the bright lights, coloured costumes and the music ect. I loved it. I remember going to school and asking my mates if they had seen this "New" WCW programme. Some of my friends had and recommended another programme by the name of The World Wrestling Federation. I told my dad about this and we headed down to the local video shop to pick up some Videos to watch.

In October 1993 i was lucky enough to see my first live wrestling show. It was at Birmingham's NEC Arena and was WCW's European Tour. The tour was a who's who of wrestling. Sting, Flair, Bulldog, Rude, Vader, Sid, Hollywood Blonds, Nasty Boys, Regal, Steamboat, Cactus Jack.

Then my love of wrestling continued

how did u first get introduced??

Cero went back in time 20 years and convinced my parents to host a party and order Royal Rumble 1991 on Pay-Per-View.

It sparked my interest in wrestling.

I wish I had come cool story, but I just walked into the room while my brother was watching it, and I got back into wrestling when I turned on Spike TV to watch DS9, only to learn that it had been replaced by Impact.

I was 5 or 6 years old and my Grandpa had it on one afternoon. I thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever seen, watching these monsters beat the crap out of each other for no reason! It was like slapstick to my budding sense of humor! Possibly why the humor piece still drives my passion for it today.

A few weeks later stumbled across it at home, WWF Superstars (or whatever it was called back then) on Saturday afternoons after lunch. I then figured out that World Class Championship Wrestling came on every day right about the time I got home from school on ESPN. Sometimes they would play old AWA Shows instead, which was also cool because the programming they used was before Vince poached all their talent, so I recognized some guys. Eventually this turned into the GWF, and oh how I wish I would have taped some of those shows. Still, these shows just held me over till Saturday Afternoon, man I looked forward to that.

It was 5th or 6th grade that I found out about Prime Time Wrestling on Monday Nights. I had to get to the second TV before my Dad did, because if he got there first my Monday was ruined, but he'd never change it if I was already watching something (Mom ruled the living room after 8:00. It was a dictatorship). It got to the point where I'd turn that TV on at 7:00 and wait it out till 9:00. I remember going ballistic when my folks wouldn't let me stay up to watch the first Royal Rumble (which aired for free on USA), and they wound up taping it for me. It was also around this time that my cable company picked up TBS, so it opened up the door to WCW! I could finally see all the guys I'd only read about in PWI! Sting! Lex Luger! The Steiners! Haha, oh yeah, PWI! I actually had a standing reservation at The Book Mobile to be the first to check out the latest edition of Pro Wrestling Illustrated when it came in.

I was 15 or 16 when I finally saved up enough money to get a TV and VCR in my room. I was then able to watch all the Wrestling I wanted. Much like today, I watched Raw live and taped it at the same time so I could watch it over and over again all week.

My Brothers and Dad watched it, and they outnumbered my mother who always wants to watch gardening shows so most nights we watched wrestling.

See! THIS is the type of cool story I wish I had.
