Much like Sin Cara's reputation in many WWE matches, his run with WWE has been a botch.
Sin Cara is a successful, talented performer, and he's very marketable—but not in WWE or the United States.
I've come to the conclusion that Sin Cara can put on great exhibition matches in WWE. You can put him in the ring with an opponent, have the opponent set him up to showcase his fancy flips and moves. I don't think on a consistent basis Sin Cara can put on a storytelling match or feud.
First off, he can't speak enough English to actually sell a feud and talk to people in the building. Secondly, he can't work with the bulk of the WWE roster. It's not a knock on WWE's talent or on Sin Cara, but they're just two different styles that I don't think can mesh on a consistent enough basis.
In the U.S., everything goes left. You work the left arm, you work the left leg, everybody should be moving counter clockwise in the ring. They turn to the left, get up to the left and apply the hold to the left. This isn't the case in other parts of the world, specifically with the lucha libre style.
When there is a cruiserweight division, the matches are always exciting, but most times, it's two guys who can work the same style. This is some of what has made Rey Mysterio so successful. He's able to work with the bigger heavyweights and their style.
This is why talents over the years who are known to have worked successfully in other parts of the world like Japan and Mexico are so good in the ring. Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit are two good examples. They could work with nearly anyone.
There are fewer people today who have the same kind of experience. The absence of territories around North America is another thing preventing guys from learning and working other styles. In the past, more territories and talent collected from around the world would provide guys exposure on how to work better internationally.
WWE continues to try to make Sin Cara work. He was one of Triple H's first scouting picks as he continues to gain power in the daily operations of the company. Most matches, Rod “Spider” Zapata is the referee. Zapata can speak fluent Spanish, which can help some of the in-ring communication to Cara.
They give Cara mood lighting around the ring to help give a supernatural feel to him. They want to create a comic-book superhero kind of image when he is in the ring. Like I said, he's talented, fun to watch, great at putting on an exhibition of unique moves we don't normally see in WWE.
The only feud where there is a backstory we've seen Sin Cara involved in is with the fake Sin Cara, played by Hunico. The year-and-a-half for Sin Cara hasn't gotten to gain much momentum with suspensions and injury.
There is only one feud that I feel people truly would be interested in with Sin Cara given limitations and context—Rey Mysterio.
Sin Cara vs. Rey Mysterio would be two of the biggest masked stars ever to come out of Mexico. It would be a marketing dream for WWE with merchandise. The match would work. It would have an ebb and flow.
After a feud with Mysterio, then what? Where's his value to WWE? Perhaps Sin Cara's value after that to the company is to be utilized with a new cruiserweight show and division if that comes to fruition. Then we would get to have a whole show and division with comic-book lighting!

I'm really not sure what he is talking about with the whole "left" thing, but I think that not speaking English is a major barrier to him getting over. It is one of the major reasons that I rarely try to watch CMLL or AAA. For those of us who like storylines, if you can't understand the language, it is pretty hard to understand the important aspects of the storylines.

but i agree, there is just soo much you can do in wwe without talking. unfortunately for sin cara, i can't imagine him working with a manager unless he were a heel. I remember him doing some promos in spanish with subtitles, maybe they could do that more often to get some feud going

I agree. There's a reason he isn't and won't ever be a main eventer anywhere but CHIKARA.RedSon wrote:i always had the same problem with deliriousBig Red Machine wrote:I'm really not sure what he is talking about with the whole "left" thing, but I think that not speaking English is a major barrier to him getting over. my understanding is that they work the left side because they're working the tv cameras, which are usually on the left side of the set (I'm talking the main camera). while other shows have hand helds and so wrestlers don't need to focus on facing a main camera.Big Red Machine wrote:I'm really not sure what he is talking about with the whole "left" thing,
