BRM Reviews the 5/19/2012 ROH

PRE-MATCH PROMOS BY MIKE BENNETT & EDDIE EDWARDS- both were very good

EDDIE EDWARDS vs. MIKE BENNETT (w/Maria Kanellis & “Brutal” Bob Evans)- 6.75/10
Good match. The aftermath was okay.

HANDICAP MATCH: Grizzly Redwood & Kamel Dickinson vs. Michael Elgin (w/Truth Martini & Roderick Strong)- no rating. Eh segment
My main gripe here that this didn’t feel like a handicap match. It felt like three singles matches, which doesn’t get Elgin over in the way that I think they were going for with a handicap match (compare this to a Ryback squash). Anyway, the other thing I didn’t like was the whole thing with Dickinson being carried off. He was the legal man. If he is too hurt to continue, the ref should stop the match and award Elgin the win. You don’t just take him out of the ring and let someone else come take his place. Elgin did look strong, though, and the stuff between Elgin and Roddy was extremely well done, saving this from being a bad segment.

ANX PROMO- Rehtt was bad, Kenny was awesome.

YOUNG BUCKS PROMO- the Jackson brother who spoke was okay.

HYPE FOR NEXT WEEK’S SHOW- Kevin Kelly says that next week’s show is “one that you cannot afford to miss” because they are going to be showing THE ENTIRE MATCH of Steen vs. Davey from Border Wars. Funny choice of words there: “Cannot ‘afford’ to miss.” I can afford to miss it. Do you know why? Because I’ve already seen the match… WHEN I PAID MONEY FOR THE PPV. If you are going to show the PPV main event in its entirety for free on TV a few weeks later, why should I pay for the PPV?

JAY LETHAL PROMO- eh.

ELIMINATION TAG TEAM MATCH: The Young Bucks vs. The All-Night Express- 6.75/10
Apparently this is an Elimination Match. I don’t even remember that being mentioned. Apparently the crowd and Bobby Cruise didn’t know either, as Bobby had to announce it after the first elimination.
Overall, a good show from ROH, to the point where I am willing to overlook the fact that the main event didn’t quite hit my 7/10 threshold.

Plus a free PPV main event that they spent eight months building to.
