What side of the war were you on?

Post by Earth Child » Jul 7th, '11, 21:37

The Monday Night War had many characteristics of a real war. There were two sides who hated each other immensely in WWF and WCW. Their battle ground was Monday nights and their soldiers were the wrestlers from Nitro and RAW and even fans.

I was a bit young while the war was on. My mother forced me to go to bed before the shows were aired down here. But my brothers and my Dad assure me that we were strict WCW territory. Nitro was never missed until after the finger poke of doom incident. Almost every PPV mid 1996 onwards was ordered from WCW (Some were even taped so I could watch them!) and we had a lot of merch from WCW. One day I was doing laundry and found out my brothers still have WCW/nWo underwear.

And so clearly we were WCW kind of people supporting Nitro more than RAW.

Did you have a side you favored during the Monday Night War? Were you a Nitro kind of person or did you like things RAW? Or did you just enjoy both equally?

I was WCW which is how i first got into wrestling but then i saw Austin, the Rock & the Undertaker. Got me into both, then i just stopped with WCW all together. I'd have to say WWF. WCW brought me in but the WWF kept me in.

I was loyal to WCW until about 99 or 2000. Once Ferrera and Russo started stinking the place up, I started paying more attention to RAW and WWE in general. I still kept up with WCW; when they still had Beniot, Booker, DDP and the Luchadores but it would piss me off the way they misused everyone.

My house has been a WWE house since before I was born. I didn't even know about WCW until this whole Invasion angle (I was a little kid mark back then).

I was a firm WWF fan. Even when WCW was at it's very best, I only flipped over to it while Raw was on commercial. Things might have been different had the Stone Cold / Bret Hart feud not been so freakin' good, but things like that kept me tuned in. WCW might have nabbed some big names from Vince, but Vince was developing guys with potential. I was sold on Austin the first time I saw him as "Stone Cold", Pillman had really come into his own during this run, Brett Hart was a heel in the US and a face in Canada (awesome), the working relationship they had with ECW, MANKIND... every episode of Raw was like watching a slow burning fuse, it was only a matter of time before it took off. Good times!

While I marked out when Jarrett returned, it was when DX version 2.0 formed with Waltman jumping back that I knew the tide had turned, it was momentous for me because most of my friends were for WCW.

It was weird for me. I originally was a WWF guy before the war started, but when it did, i started to loose interest in wrestling cuz of WWF being to stupid. But at the same time, i didn't like WCW that much, cuz being honest, i was a mark, i wanted to see Taker, Bret Hart, Tatanka, guys like that. Eventually i came back to wrestling on the final years of the war, WCW was already going down hill and WWF was already on a high note with Triple H, Rock, Austin, Mankind, etc so it was the perfect promotion to support....with the exception i now knew about ECW...

The WWF brought me in. The WWF kept me in. I was never much of a WCW fan.

I started out watching Raw. Then I switched to Nitro shortly before or at when the NWO storyline hit. I definitely left before that whole crap with Jeff Jarrett calling himself the chosen one. I returned to WWE sometime around when the Attitude Era started. Then I started watching both shortly before WCW closed. (I still remember the team Air Raid featuring Air Styles and Air Paris, though my favorite tag team at that time was the Jung Dragons.)

I was only a little kid, but I was into WWF more if I remember correctly. Undi was my favorite so I tuned into Raw, but I did watch WCW too.

If I'm honest I watched both!!!

I first got into wrestling watching WCW as this wasn't on Sky tv at the time!! I then started watching WWF around 1991 just because all my mates watched it. When it actually came to the wars I watched both companies so didn't really have to pick!!

I do wish The Invasion angle had been done better tho!!!

I watched both, but for the better part of the war, I preferred WCW bc they showcased more talent, presented a more versatile product, and had all the true stars of the era. Until Austin won the Rumble, WWF just seemed out of touch: guys like the Godwins and the Headbangers were as bad as some of TNA's forgettable gimmicks....
