BRM Reviews the 5/23/11 Raw (terrible)

Post by Big Red Machine » May 25th, '11, 10:24

OPENING SEGMENT- THIS is the Ron Killings I’ve been waiting for! He is like Jericho from 2009, but with EMOTION!
I was really digging the main event until they announced that Bret would be the Special Guest Referee.

WWE TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Kane & Big Show(c) vs. Otunga & McGillicutty- 4/10. Anytime that your babyface in peril is 6’10 and over 300 pounds, something is wrong.

BIG SHOW GETS RUNS OVER BY A CAR- then Del Rio drove the car over a shark tank.

JACK SWAGGER vs. EVAN BOURNE- 3/10. WAY too short. Then, after taking Swagger’s finisher, Bourne pops up, kicks Swagger in the face and runs away? WTF?!

MIZ-RILEY SEGMENT- PERFECT! Alex Riley is now the #2 babyface in the WWE!

MARYSE, MELINA & THE BELLAS vs. GAIL KIM, EVE TORRES, BETH PHOENIX, & KELLY KELLY- WHAT THE F*CK IS THIS SH*T! THEY JUST MADE AWESOME KONG LOOK LIKE A F*CKING LOSER! WHY? THIS IS THE MOST COUNTERPRODUCTIVE THING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN A WRESTLING RING, AND THAT SAYS A LOT!

DEL RIO PROMO- um… okay.

TAG TEAM MATCH W/BRET HART AS SPECIAL GUEST REFEREE: John Cena & Rey Mysterio vs. R-Truth & CM Punk- 4.75/10! WTF? It looked like Bret was slow-counting the heels all match, and then the babyfaces cheat to win? This is what I was talking about when I said that WWE books things for the cheap pop. What is more important: To have you babyface win cleanly? Or to get a cheap pop from Bret doing a sharpshooter? The fact that even TNA knows the correct answer to this should make WWE ashamed of themselves.

Overall, this episode of Raw SUCKED. The only bright spots were R-Truth’s promo in the beginning and the A-Ri turn.

yea i thought of the same thing they just had brett use the sharpshooter cuz its a brett hart apperance and they always have to do that,,if anything it would have been a better pop for cena to just win a clean match,,could serve to add fuel to truths conspiracy theorys tho so maybe not all bad
When they come, they'll come at what you love.

Exactly and didnt Bret use the Sharpshooter the night before on Cole? The use of it on Punk whether he did it or not the night before pisses me off. It looked as though Rey could have won it without Hart putting Punk in the sharpshooter.

oh yea rey clearly had the match going he was set up for the 619,i didnt really understand the reasoning for brett to just screw punk like that,i legimately was like ,what, why? because there was a slight disagreement here and there about the counts,,which is typical for heels,if anything brett should have done that to truth,,he had problems with earlier,,and it wouldve helped the truth angle even better

I'm surprised you didn't mention Cole's catharsis....

You have to admit that Miz is pretty over if Riley can get chants from beating him up.

exactly,,instant face,,the concept of a heel getting over from turning on the mega heel ,just there being so much heat intantly propels them, same for guys becoming major heels in the blink of an eye just from alligning with the most hated man in the history of the company as well,,,,,is a concept i like alot

Wasn't really sure what to say about it. IMO, both Cole and WWE got too caught up in the success. Cole was at his best as a heel until they started building for Mania. When he was still a babyface except only in certain instances (like when he was dealing with Dragon or King, or whoever Miz was facing). After that, he became self-obsessed, and he and Lawler going back and forth on commentary started to get overwhelming and annoying. The stuff with the divas was just dumb.

While the catharsis was well done, I think it resets Cole a bit too far back, so he can't be the heel we started to love to hate anymore.

I agree. That's why I said it (although I think that they ended Miz' title reign in entirely the wrong way).

I actually saw it the other way, I think that the beating is something that will cause Riley to stay heel and Miz to go Face. with that kind of beating, i can see Riley attacking a face and Miz coming out to make the save and attack Riley at the same time.

That's when it becomes the point. Knowing McMahon he'll see it as "Holy sh*t the fans want more Riley"... when the natural fact is... it's "The Miz is getting his ass whooped! YEAH!"

I wouldn't mind seeing more Riley... it's about time he wrestled someone other than Cena.

Let's see how over he is when he comes out alone.

But he has to keep it. Which means if he's babyface... he needs to do some big babyface things, or they'll lose that momentum... that is of course if he has any... let's face it... until he opens his mouth, the fans won't cheer or boo... because they won't know how to take him... but his first match/promo will now be VERY important to his career.

yes youve got to keep building more and more, yes i agree he jumped all over miz and got a huge pop,now what,im not sure if that was to break him off from miz and move to SD permanently or to start a program with miz,the latter may be better because thinking about it theres not a lot of big heel things going on on SD for him to go against to go over

The Miz is considered top star... there may be one match between the two... but it'll be straight on to the next.

This is exactly what happened with Batista. No one wanted to see Batista (as a babyface, anyway). They just wanted to see someone get the heat back from Triple H.
