Trios championships are likely coming to AEW.

AEW is preparing to introduce trios titles into the promotion.

Championship belts have already been created and their introduction is said to be "just a matter of time." Our own Dave Meltzer addressed the issue in Friday's edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

“Trios title belts have been made so now it’s just a matter of when they pull the trigger," Meltzer wrote. "Tony Khan was asked about making trios titles and gave the indication a few months ago what it was happening, but that they didn’t want to do the tournament until Kenny Omega was back.”

Khan addressed the issue during a media call to promote All Out last September. The AEW President noted that he will have more interest in a trios division after Kenny Omega has returned.

"We have a lot of great trios here," Khan said. "I am very interested in it. I will be 100% honest with you, this is the most blunt answer I could give, I am much more receptive to doing it when Kenny Omega is back."

Because this was definitely a successful idea in ROH and NJPW.

It would only be the 12th title on AEW/"ROH" TV, no big deal.

Hmmm, I wonder why.

Anyway, can't wait for yet another tournament (I guess this one would have a point at least) and the totally unpredictable final of The Elite vs. The Unending Error.

Trios titles are never an overwhelming success... but now I understand why they've made such a big deal out of getting guys into threes...

6-man belts have been teased almost since the beginning (and technically still are), so it's kinda shocking that they've introduced the FTW and TBS titles before those.

I'm just not sure about a trios championship nowadays, and not just in the Dub. That'd be one thing if regular tag matches were still more story-driven while 6-man tags could be used as a mindless high-speed clusterfuck, but most tags are clusterfucks themselves these days, so trios don't stand out anymore. If you want to be flexible with the 600 factions on the show, just make the Freebird Rule official.

Just the "prestigious" ROH World title, but I can't blame you since it's barely been on TV (that one match against Dalton "André" Castle at the last """special""").

Don't think you've missed any, but there is also the ROH World Title out there that they could easily bring in (and I'm shocked they haven't yet).

Isn't Gresham "All Elite" or at least signed to some kind of deal? He was allegedly injured after the Castle match, but pretty much everyone thinks that it was to duck a job on a PROGRESS show a few days later.

Either way, it's pretty odd that he hasn't lost the belt yet if he isn't, or featured more if he does.
