wXw We Love Wrestling #12 (5/14/2021)- Oberhausen, Germany
AVALANCHE INTERVIEW- fine
He builds up his match with Dover tonight and puts the Arrows of Hungary over as worthy challengers.
ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS THE ARROWS OF HUNGARY- fine
Dover cut a promo building up his match with Avalanche.
“THE AVALANCHE” ROBERT DREISSKER (w/Anil Marik) vs. DOVER (w/Icarus)- 4/10
They told a little story based on Avalanche’s size and power advantage, as was built up in their promos. Avalanche won cleanly. I don’t think that the story “Dover is a weightlifter, but Avalanche is too big for him” is a good story to establish going into a match where Dover is on the challenging team and Avalanche is one half of the champions.
AIGLE BLANC INTERVIEW- meh
AIGLE BLANC vs. NIKITA CHARISMA (w/Michael Schenkenberg)- 4/10
Aigle Blanc overcame heel tactics to get the win.
ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS AIGLE BLANC & SENZA VOLTO- decent
Aigle Blanc notes that this is first singles win in wXw, then said that the tornado tag hair vs. mask match coming up is his big test.
Andy Jackson asks Senza Volto why he decided to not take part in tonight’s #1 contendership battle royale. Senza says it’s because he is focused on their enemies, the group of Baby Allison, Vincent Heisenberg, & Maggot, so he won’t be able to concentrate on the battle royale. Andy tells him that those three will be in the battle royale, and Senza says that he now has a reason to be totally focused on it. I think Senza having taken himself out of the match makes him look a little stupid. What’s the worst that happens if you enter the battle royale but can’t concentrate on it? You lose a battle royale and don’t get the title shot? So what? You already don’t have a title shot, so it’s not like you’re losing anything. You’re not even losing money because if you don’t enter the match, you don’t any money, either (and that’s assuming that you only get paid if you win in a battle royale. If you get a loser’s share of the purse just for appearing then you’re better off entering it and losing than you are not entering it at all).
DENNIS DULLNIG & HEKTOR INVICTUS PROMO- bad
We had either a continuity slip or a translation error here, as Dennis referred to last week’s match as having taken place “earlier.” Oops. Dennis suggests that they work as a team. He says he will win, but that he’ll give Hektor the first title shot. Hektor is still angry at Dennis for breaking his flagpole last week (he literally said “breaking my flag” but the flag itself wasn’t broken). Dude… if you don’t like the guy, why are you hanging out with him? Who told you to shoot your promo at the same time as him?
About the flag, Dennis says he has a surprise for Hektor tonight. Hektor said “why me?” Comedy does not suit Hektor Invictus well.
TRISTAN ARCHER PROMO- passable
He said he’ll win the battle royale.
DENNIS ZINNER INTERVIEW- meh
He says he learned a lot from losing to Marius last week and thinks he has a 50-50 shot of winning this week.
DENNIS ZINNER vs. MICHAEL SCHENKENBERG (w/Nikita Charisma)- 4.5/10
Schenkenberg wins a short match. I can’t think of anyone I have ever seen doing a “guy keeps trying and does a little better each time until he eventually finally gets a win” gimmick that I have cared about less than Dennis Zinner.
ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS ROTT & FLOTT- fine
Schenkenberg says that they are a unit, so his win is not just his but rather both of theirs.
LEON VAN GASTEREN PROMO- AWESOME!
Leon spoke with conviction about his desire to win the battle royale and then the Unified World Wrestling Title.
ALPHA KEVIN PROMO- fine
ANIL MARIK INTERVIEW- very good
Young Anil is improving on the mic. He is confident in his chances because he and Coach Dreissker have been watching tape to prepare.
ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS ICARUS- solid
He tells us what winning the tag titles would mean to the Arrows of Hungary. He then put Anil Marik over, but said he would beat Anil due to his experience advantage. He says that they always wrestle and win clean. Based on the build so far, they’re pretty clearly telegraphing a heel turn for the Arrows at Drive of Champions, and it’s a good idea. Without Pretty Bastards now defunct, this division needs some credible heels.
ANIL MARIK (w/“the Avalanche” Robert Dreissker) vs. ICARUS (w/Dover)-3.75/10
Icarus beat on young Anil and made him tap out in five and a half minutes.
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- good
Avalanche thought Icarus left the hold locked in for too long and got in Icarus’ face over it. Dover came to his partner’s defense, and we had a very tense argument.
FAST TIME MOODO PROMO- very good
He recounts his disappointing history with titles and title shots (he had to relinquish the tag titles immediately after winning them when his tag partner got hurt, and then lost a Shotgun Title match due to injury), but insists that he will overcome everything and win the #1 contendership battle royale tonight.
EMIL SITOCI PROMO VIA SATELLITE- good
He says that he won’t be returning to wrestle in wXw anytime soon because he has gone home to the Netherlands to take care of his various responsibilities in the TV world. He says he heard about Tristan Archer’s promo from last week and says that he doesn’t feel like they need to have a rematch because he doesn’t want to injure his knee even more. As far as he is concerned, he beat Archer in their last match despite an injury, and so there is no need for a rematch. Good bullsh*t heel excuse-making from Sitoci.
PARIS BALLIS INTERVIEW- bad
He says that he knows he isn’t going to beat Marius tonight, but promises to at least make it difficult. Dude… have some faith in yourself!
MARIUS AL-ANI vs. PARIS BALLIS- 3.5/10
Marius dominates and wins clean.
ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS MARIUS AL-ANI- meh
This was the standard Marius bragging.
BATTLE ROYALE FOR A SHOT AT THE wXw UNIFIED WORLD WRESTLING TITLE AT DRIVE OF CHAMPIONS 2021- 6.75/10
As expected, Senza has entered himself into the match. This was a solid battle royale that really benefitted from a wide-open field.
Levaniel came out and ran his mouth on his way to the ring, so everyone ganged up on him right away, but because he’s a babyface now, he actually managed to survive elimination and it was exciting to see him try to hang on when people were trying to stomp him off the apron. Levaniel just narrowly escaping elimination was the only real recurring story in the match. Everything else was mostly just battle royale tropes or people doing what was needed for their own feuds.
Senza eliminated both Baby Allison and Maggot, but was then eliminated himself by Vincent Heisenberg. Johnny Evers eliminated Aytac, but was then eliminated by Rambo after Aytac grabbed his foot from the outside to distract him.
Archer and Moodo had a good little spot where they were fighting on the apron, which was a call-back to their recent match. Moodo had gotten the better of Archer on the apron last time, but Archer got the better of Moodo this time, eliminating him from the match.
Dullnig saved Hektor from elimination, but Hektor paid him back by immediately grabbing him from behind and eliminating him. That left us with a final four of Hektor, Levaniel, Heisenberg, and Archer. The other three then worked together to eliminate the large Heisenberg. Levaniel narrowly escaped elimination when Archer charged at him and Hektor when they were on the apron, resulting in Hektor’s elimination. Levaniel and Archer went for another few minutes of mostly Levaniel avoiding being eliminated before he finally eliminated Archer from the apron to pick up the big win.
ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS LEVANIEL- awesome promo by Levaniel saying that he will win the title from Marius.
This was a fine show from wXw. It was really just maintenance booking and then the main event, but it was very easy to sit through and the main event was fun and gave us a good babyface moment at the end.
