ISLA DAWN vs. KAY LEE RAY- 3.5/10
This was very good for the time it got. I was shocked by how much of the match they let Isla dominate. Her new finisher got kicked out of already, though, so I don’t think they really have any plans for her.
KAY LEE RAY PROMO- fine
She’s a dominant champion, blah blah blah.
BEN CARTER VIDEO PACKAGE- great!
Regal, Nigel, Sid Scala, and several active veterans put him over huge (including Seth Rollins).
ILJA DRAGUNOV VIDEO PROMO- GREAT!
Yeah, sure, his match with WALTER was the MOTY… but he doesn’t care because he didn’t win, and now he has to start his climb to the top all over again. He ceremonially removed his creepy red-eye contact lenses, symbolizing… something.
HANDICAP MATCH: Levi Muir & Jack Starz vs. Saxon Huxley- 3/10
Apparently these two are the guys Huxley attacked backstage. Huxley dominated a lot of the match, but the babyfaces made a comeback and Starz actually managed to pin Huxley with a roll-up. That made me laugh.
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- fine
Huxley attacked the non-jobbers after the match until Dave Mastiff made the save. This was a perfectly fine angle, but I don’t care about anyone involved.
EARLIER THIS WEEK, PIPER NIVEN SHOWS SID SCALA FOOTAGE FROM A SECURITY CAMERA- bad
Piper is working out in an empty gym. She grabs a case to… put her weights away, I guess? I’m not a gym person. Anyway, in the case, there a chair with a piece of paper taped to it. Said piece of paper is apparently a signed contract for a match between her and Jinny, which Piper thinks Jinny left there... as a threat, maybe? I don’t know. This was very convoluted. I don’t see what Jinny gets out of doing this.
In related news, Piper Niven vs. Jinny in a #1 contendership match has been signed for three weeks from now.
RAMPAGE BROWN & DAVE MASTIFF MEET IN A HALLWAY- They exchange words, teasing an eventual match.
A-KID WANTS A TITLE SHOT AGAINST WALTER- meh
A-Kid cuts a big babyface promo about what the Heritage Cup means to him, then says he wants to challenge WALTER for the NXT UK Title. WALTER came out and put A-Kid over, but said that no one would take the title from him. Then he just walked off without granting A-Kid a title shot, and A-Kid just stood there. The promos here were good, but the way this ended did not make A-Kid look like a star at all.
INTERVIEW WITH KENNY WILLIAMS EARLIER TODAY IN THE TRAINER’S ROOM- decent
He’s injured. Amir Jordan shows up, so Kenny apologizes to him because their match had to be cancelled. Amir tells him it’s no problem. They’ll just wait until he’s heathy and go after the tag titles again, just like they’ve always wanted. Kenny insists that Amir not wait for him to get better and to start on a singles career instead. To me, it sounded like Williams doesn’t want to team with Jordan anymore, and this was a fine start to that.
TRENT SEVEN VIDEO PACKAGE/SIT-DOWN INTERVIEW- very good
He’s going to take some time off to work on the flaws in his game. He’s clearly disappointed that he hasn’t achieved much so far in NXT UK.
RAMPAGE BROWN vs. JOSH MORRELL- squash
They let the jobber do a lot of flips to avoid Rampage’s moves before he finally caught him.
SID SCALA MAKES AN ANNOUNCEMENT- WALTER vs. A-Kid will happen at some point next year.
NXT UK TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang)(c) vs. The Hunt (w/Eddie Dennis)- 6.5/10
This was a fine brawl for the time it got, but I’d really like to see a title match main event go more than eight minutes. Dennis got involved but was taken out by Joe Coffey. Mark Andrews & “Flash” Morgan Webster interfered to help Gallus retain, getting revenge on the hunt.
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- random
Pretty Deadly came out to challenge Gallus. Ashton Smith & Oliver Carter came out, grabbed them from behind, and threw them into the ring for Gallus to beat up but Pretty Deadly managed to escape.
This was a mostly meh episode of NXT UK. There were some good promos, but the wrestling was disappointing and a lot of the storyline stuff was either weird or boring.
