Roman Reigns: WWE absence due to newborn twins, not health concerns

In an interview with TMZ posted early Friday morning, Roman Reigns said that the reason he is home instead of active in WWE is not due to health concerns, but rather, it's his two newborn twin sons that have his full attention.

"They're 8 weeks old so I had to make a decision for them," he said before reiterating his love for the business.

The 34-year-old addressed speculation that his absence was due to concerns about how COVID-19 could affect his immune system due to his past fights against leukemia, saying that isn't the case.

"Talking to my doctors and stuff, I actually am fine and my immune system is good. The drugs that I take to fight the leukemia, they don't attack your immune system," he said.

In a last minute decision while in Orlando, Florida, Reigns pulled out of his match with then-WWE Universal Champion Bill Goldberg at WrestleMania 36 and hasn't been on TV since. His last match was a six-man tag with the Usos on a March 1st house show.

He has no idea when he'll be back in WWE and is focusing on his growing family instead.

"I want to be out there. I want to get back to work. I want to get back to normal, but I just feel like I have an obligation not only to my family and myself but to my community. Also, to set the example, because at the end of the day, we can do a lot of different things and say a lot of different things but it's through our actions that really speaks volume. That's what I'm trying to do," he said.

this is a perfectly fine excuse really, but I don't see why it can't be both. This screams of WWE asking Reigns to say this and not that he's taking health precautions.

Yeah, it definitely sounds more like they don't want people to say that WWE possibly exposed someone with leukemia to COVID-19.

I think part of the issue here is also the WWE mentality of keeping people who aren't around out of mind. If Roman came on TV and explained to the fans that this is why he can't, in good conscious, challenge for the title at WrestleMania, he'd come off like a babyface, but WWE would never let him do that on TV because they don't want you to remember that he's missing. Because of that, when something like this comes out six weeks later, it sounds like something that was concocted after the fact, no matter how true everything about the statement may or may not be.
