Asuka vs. Becky Lynch announced for WWE Royal Rumble

This week's episode of WWE Main Event included an interesting announcement for the Royal Rumble.

During the episode, it was announced that SmackDown Women's Champion Asuka will defend her title against Becky Lynch at the Royal Rumble. This week's Main Event was hosted by Scott Stanford and was a recap show that looked back at Monday's Raw and Tuesday's SmackDown. WWE announced Asuka vs. Lynch for the Royal Rumble after recapping Asuka, Lynch, and Charlotte Flair's segment and Asuka's title defense against Naomi from SmackDown.

Asuka won the SmackDown Women's Championship from Lynch at TLC, defeating Lynch and Charlotte in a triple threat tables, ladders, and chairs match. The finish continued Lynch and Charlotte's storylines with Ronda Rousey. Rousey came out, pushed down a ladder that Lynch and Charlotte were on, and Asuka climbed another ladder to win the title.

Lynch facing Asuka at the pay-per-view doesn't rule out that she will be in the women's Royal Rumble match as well.

Royal Rumble 2019 is taking place at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona on January 27. In addition to Asuka vs. Lynch and both Royal Rumble matches, Brock Lesnar defending his Universal Championship against Braun Strowman has also been confirmed for the PPV.

I'm tellin' ya what...Becky Lynch winning at WM is one of the easiest "make the fans so happy". Opportunities they've had in a while. It's that simple and easy. Just take her there the right way.

Right. Especially when the whole thing books itself out easily the way Alvarez suggested:
Rumble comes down to Nia vs. Becky and you do the Bret/Luger finish, creating a reason for an inter-brand match at the February PPV, with the idea being that the winner will obviously challenge Ronda at Mania, thus allowing Becky to get some good, real, full-length revenge on Nia while also creating an obstacle for Becky to overcome on her road to Ronda.

That was my first thought, but this is the best kayfabe explanation possible, so I can't really be angry at it. Also, it's not Paige who should get the kayfabe heat here so much as a the production person who put it up.
