PWG Life During Wartime
July 6, 2008
Reseda, California
Excalibur announces that Jack Evans was pulled by AAA and that Jay Briscoe was fired for pretty much no showing. As a result, the now partnerless Roddy will team with the now matchless Generico to defend the titles tonight, for this, Generico and Steen get a tag title match at ASW.
Arik Cannon vs Brandon Bonham - 5/10
Arik Cannon super hated from the fans, no wonder we don't see him anymore. Standard match where Cannon did a better job than Bohmam in my opinion. Bohnam wins with a Canadian Destroyer, which I never liked that he used.
Hook Bomberry and TJ Perkins vs Mikey Nicholls and Charles Mercury - 5.5/10
A standard tag team with Perkins and Bomberry working heel, yet more loved by the fans than Nicholls and Mercury. Really liked how the ending went down, nothing special, but the move looked good.
Phoenix Star vs Claudio Castagnoli - 6.5/10
Great Power vs Speed showing, where the Power is actually pretty fast too. It's hard to describe exactly what it is, but Claudio, regardless of his size, can perfectly work with such a small guy like Phoenix Star. Claudio actually won with the Swing. This was an almost 7/10 match.
Kikutaro vs Necro Butcher - 6/10
I'd never thought I see this. History books can now say that Kikutaro vs Necro Butcher once happened. We got technical wrestling from Necro, Comedy, deathmatch, fighting spirit. Kikurato went for the fan chair spot from ECW and got knocked out during it. This match made me think why isn't Deathmatch Comedy a more popular thing?
Trivia: That guy that gave Necro a beer at the bar, future PWG wrestler Willie Mack.
Kazma & Miyawaki vs The Dynasty vs The Young Bucks - 7.5/10
Pretty fast paced match from all six guys. This was my first exposure to Kazma and Miyawaki, Kazma particularly impressed me, he's huge and fast. Matt Jackson was the babyface in peril for both teams, after the hot tag everything went crazy. I believe this was the first time that Bucks brought their new style of offense to PWG, and particularly debuted More Bang For Your Buck.
Chris Bosh vs Scorpio Sky - 10/10
This was literally the best match in both these man's careers. Amazing match full of technical wrestling, near falls, and just fully packed of action. The selling sometimes did bother me and was about to take 1 point off, but it didn't really take any of the greatness away from this match. Perfect 10/10
PWG Tag Team Titles Match
Roderick Strong and El Generico vs Age of the Fall - 8/10
A great match, but nothing out of this world. Generico was the babyface in peril, and Roddy kinda got two hot tags one after the other. Generico ended up costing the title to Roddy and he attacked the luchador after the match for that.
Steel Cage Guerrilla Warfare Match
Human Tornado (c) vs Chris Hero w/ Candice LaRae - 8/10
HOLY SHIT THAT JUMP FROM THE STAGE!! This was what exactly everyone expected from the blowout to the Hero/Tornado saga. Incredibly violent, stiff, and bloody brawl in and outside the ring. Really eventfull match towards the end of it, and while it felt that it dragged a little bit at some points, it didn't feel like stalling or wasted spots. Good way to cap off the feud, show, and anniversary show.
OVERALL THOUGHTS:
Show started slow, but slowly escalated to awesomeness. The main events where off the top, but Bosh vs Sky stole the show. A show worth checking out for any PWG fan, at least for the historic significance.
