PWG All-Star Weekend X: Night 1 (12/20/2013)- Reseda, CA
OPENING SEGMENT- Mount Rushmore and Excalibur came out to open the show. Mount Rushmore were mean to Excalibur, so Chris Hero made his return to PWG by coming out and knocking out all of the heels aside from Cole, who escaped. Hero wanted to have his title match right now, but Cole didn't. He then cut a promo saying it was good to be back and he wanted to be the PWG World Champion.
ANTHONY NESE vs. BRIAN CAGE- 6.5/10
A Brian Cage singles match that I actually enjoyed! See what happens when you sell, Brian?
JOEY RYAN & CANDICE LERAE vs. THE ROCK-NES MONSTERS- 6.75/10
Great stuff, and some cool double teams. I'm not quite sure how I feel about Candice using her (as Excalibur termed them) "feminine wiles" in this match, but if her kissing whichever Johnny she kissed leads to Joey Ryan getting jealous and paving the way for an actual story for Joey and Candice getting along, I will be very happy.
TOMMASO CIAMPA vs. DRAKE YOUNGER- 7.25/10
DAVEY RICHARDS vs. JOHNNY GARGANO- 8.25/10
Great submissions and counters, and lots of work on each other's head and neck. An awesome match.
DAVEY RICHARDS GIVES A GOODBYE SPEECH- eh. Normally these things feel like big moments, but this one really didn't.
DOJO BROS. vs. BEST FRIENDS (Chuck Taylor & Trent?)- 7.75/10
The usual great PWG tag team action. Best Friends are now using a double chokeslam. That is awesome. Eddie Edwards did not get a goodbye speech. That was odd.
MICHAEL ELGIN vs. ACH- 8/10
Similar to their match earlier this year at ROH Dragon's Reign, but rather than just plain power vs. speed like that match was, this was more power vs. physics, with ACH overcoming the size differential by doing moves that used Elgin's own mass against him. An awesome match, but I think their ROH match was better.
THE YOUNG BUCKS & KEVIN STEEN vs. A.R. FOX & THE INNER-CITY MACHINE GUNS- 8/10
Standard PWG six man tag team insanity, plus THE PEOPLE'S MOONSAULT! Also, a F*CKING SICK finish.
PWG WORLD TITLE MATCH: Adam Cole(c) (w/the Young Bucks & Kevin Steen) vs. Chris Hero- 7.75/10
A great return to the indies for Chris Hero. An awesome hard-hitting, Chris Hero-style match. I would have given it an 8, but I absolutely hated everything they did with that f*cking elbow bad.
Hero, the babyface, had just gotten a visual pinfall on Cole. If the ref hadn't been knocked out, Hero would be the champ right now. He is in full control of the match. Not desperate in any way. He decides that this would be a good time to pull out his never-proven-to-be-loaded elbow pad from his days as a heel in ROH. Not only does he pull out the elbow bad, but he taps it against the ringpost, making a metal-on-metal sound, letting everyone know that it is loaded: so not only is he a cheater, but he’s an idiot, too, for advertising his cheating. Hero goes to use the elbow pad, but Cole avoids it, then knocks Hero out and gets a visual pin of his own. HE'S THE CHEATING CHAMPION HEEL! Why would you give him a visual pin, especially when he's going over by help from interference anyway?!
GGGRRR!! The whole thing made me so mad!
CHRIS HERO PROMO- he says he will work hard to earn another title shot, etc. etc. In the middle of this, some fan randomly shouted "F*CK NORMAN SMILEY" so Hero ripped him a new one, then said he would bring Normal to Reseda so that the fan in question could fellate Norman. I don't think Norman's WWE contract will let him do that.
An awesome show from PWG, as usual. Great wrestling all up and down the card.
