TNA Slammiversary IX (6/12/2011)- Orlando, FL-

TNA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The British Invasion vs. Beer Guns- 6.5/10. I liked the tease a lot.

Heh. Kurt Angle parked in the fire lane.

SCOTT STEINER vs. MATT MORGAN- 5.75/10. I should be more pissed at Steiner for cheating, but that anger all got channeled towards Taz and Tenay for not acknowledging the cheating.

JEEF JARRETT PROMO- good.

TNA X DIVISION TITLE MATCH: Abyss(c) vs. Kazarian vs. Brian Kendrick- 7/10! I LOVED the story to this match, and the psychology was AWESOME! They would work together to knock Abyss down, and he would get up and just TAKE CONTROL with just one or two power moves. Each time they knocked him down, it took longer and longer for him to get back up. The early Black Hole Slam was genius, as it created a great reason for Kendrick to be down for so long, allowing Abyss to just dominate him. The only thing about this match I didn’t like was the finish. Abyss is a monster heel. He should win by stealing a pin, and Kaz should have been pinned after a real finisher, not a f*cking dropkick.

CRIMSON vs. SAMOA JOE- 5.5/10. The finish felt very flat, and Crimson did a pretty bad job of selling Joe’s work on his leg.

TNA KNOCKOUTS’ TITLE MATCH: Mickie James(c) vs. ANGELINA LOVE (w/Winter)- 4/10. No emotion at all and a botched finish.

LAST MAN STANDING MATCH: AJ Styles vs. Bully Ray- 6.75/10. Didn’t like this too much. I don’t really like Last Man Standing matches, as I find the counts boring. Kickouts happen in a split second. If you blink, you won’t see it. Getting up in a Last Man Standing match doesn’t.

TNA WORLD TITLE MATCH: Sting(c) vs. Mr. Anderson- 4.5/10 Soooo many things wrong here. First of all, I’m fairly certain that THE BELL NEVER RUNG TO START THE MATCH!
YET ANOTHER Sting match that spends a lot more time outside of the ring than in it. It is at the point where I think that the only move he can do anymore is an Irish Whip into that random wall in the Impact Zone. They were brawling in the crowd for a good five minutes with no count at all from the referee… but once that segment of the match was over, the ref started to use a count-out. It was ridiculous.

The finish was preceded by a BLATANT LOW BLOW RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE REFEREE! All of this crap combined with a dead crowd makes for a GENEROUS rating of 4.5/10 (I do have to commend whoever thought of having Bischoff fool Sting by making a count himself. I always appreciate a new and unexpected way of cheating).

Then they wasted time showing us the same damn thing over and over again when it was quite obvious what happened after the first replay.

KAREN ANGLE INTERVIEW- unnecessary. Karen was great, Tenay was atrocious.

#1 CONTENDERSHIP MATCH FOR THE TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE & KURT ANGLE’S OLYMPIC GOLD METAL: Kurt Angle vs. Jeff Jarrett- 7.25/10. This match was good, but it didn’t feel like a worthy blow-off to this feud. While it had its flaws, their match at Lockdown did have that important feel. This match didn’t.

Overall, this show was bad, and for Slammiversary, it was just plain unacceptable. But what do you expect from TNA?

Stupid Announcer Quotes:
1. Taz and Tenay mention how Steiner was able to get the ref out of position to hit Morgan with a low blow, and ascribe it to “the veteran’s edge.”… but seem to have no issue with the fact that A LOW BLOW IS ILLEGAL!

2. Tenay- “an inverted atomic drop is a good follow-up move after the low blow”- Both an atomic drop and an inverted atomic drop involved dropping the opponent’s TAIL BONE on your knee. It is NOT a low blow. You would think that “Professor” Tenay would know this. At this point, it is more believable that John Cena has a legitimate doctorate in “thuganomics” than Tenay having a degree in ANYTHING at all, never mind anything related to wrestling.
Taz then proves that he doesn’t know this either.

3. Taz- “I don’t think that Winter needed to do that. I think the referee would have noticed that Angelina’s hand was also under the rope”- If he was going to notice it, he would have already… but I have a much bigger problem with this quote. This isn’t stupid announcing so much as it is BAD announcing. Winter, a heel, just cheated. Instead of playing that up and being outraged, Taz takes that away from her and says that her actions were irrelevant. WTF?!

4. If you can, listen to Tenay’s tone when he says “you saw the extra leverage provided by Winter on the pin attempt”- he is so analytical and disinterested. He is simply telling you what happened. What happened is that SOMEBODY CHEATED!!!!!!!! He should be PISSED OFF! He didn’t even mention that this act was ILLEGAL! WTF?!

5. Tenay (to Karen)- “You’re insinuating that Kurt Angle is the guilty party?”- “INSINUATING”? Did you not hear what she just said? “It was a PUSH by my ex-husband.” That’s not insinuating… THAT IS OUT-RIGHT SAYING SO!

Mike Teany was just horrible tonight. He has NO EMOTION WHATSOEVER! Jeff Jarrett went for a Stroke and Kurt countered it, then hit Jarrett with an Angle Slam… and Tenay’s tone of voice didn’t change!
