WWE Armageddon 2006
WWE Armageddon 2006 (12/17/2006)- Richmond, VA
INFERNO MATCH: Kane vs. MVP- 4/10.
I really dislike Inferno matches. I find them very hard to watch because, IMO, fire is too dangerous for wrestling. Especially in this case, where the feud didn’t call for an inferno match, I found myself agreeing with JBL’s rant at the end of the match. The match also really wasn’t exciting at all, as all they did was a few teases.
TEDDY LONG BACKSTAGE WITH THE DIVAS- Teddy tells the divas that there will be a Lingerie contest later tonight. Not only was I not excited about this, but, as JBL pointed out… who cares about this crap. MVP was ON FIRE and COLLAPSED!
We were supposed to get a WWE Tag Team Title match between London & Kendrick and Regal & Taylor, but Teddy Long comes out and randomly makes this a Ladder Match… and adds in two other teams randomly… both of which include one guy who isn’t even on the Smackdown Roster.
So we have a random, no-hype gimmick match, including two teams that have done nothing whatsoever to earn a title shot, and including two guys who shouldn’t kayfabe be in the building (never mind being allowed to compete).
Teddy has some people bring ladders out and place them in random places on the ramp and the ringside area (anyone remember the days when guys actually had to get weapons from under the ring, rather than having them set up in some dumb, artsy formation for them before the match starts?)
LADDER MATCH FOR THE WWE TAG TEAM TITLES: Paul London & Brian Kendrick(c) vs. Dave Taylor & William Regal vs. The Hardy Boyz vs. MNM- 8.5/10
At least the match was awesome.
THE MIZ PROMO- okay
THE MIZ vs. THE BOOGEYMAN- DUD!
Boogeyman got NO REACTION AT ALL. Miz didn't get much reaction once the match started.
VICKIE & CHAVO GUERRERO PROMOS- very bad
WWE UNITED STATES TITLE MATCH: Chris Benoit(c) vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr. (w/Vickie Guerrero)- 6.25/10
WWE CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Shane Helms(c) vs. Jimmy Wang Yang- 6.5/10
LAST RIDE MATCH: The Undertaker vs. Mr. Kennedy- 6.5/10
The whole thing with needing to drive the hearse out of the arena and the spots it created (like Taker sitting up while in the car) just came across as goofy to me.
BOOKER T, FINLAY, & SHARMELL BACKSTAGE- eh
â€"NAUGHTY OR NICE†LINGERIE CONTEST- Krystal vs. Ashley Massaro vs. Layla vs. Jillian- waste of time, but at one point JBL goes on a hilarious tangent about how he is going to buy the North Pole, lower the price of reindeer meat to 75 cents per pound, then kill a bunch of reindeer and cook them with JR’s Bar-B-Q sauce.
BATISTA & JOHN CENA vs. FINLAY & KING BOOKER (w/Sharmell)- 5.25/10
Nowhere close to being an acceptable PPV main event. It was too short (only about 10 minutes) and the major story here was that the heels couldn’t get along, so you never really felt like the babyfaces were in any danger at all.
Overall, not a very good show from WWE, and without the ladder match, it would have been much worse.
