CHIKARA The Great Escape (7/28/2012)- Portland, ME
GREEN ANT vs. AssailANT- 6/10
CAMERON MATTHEWS PROMOA- bad, and made even worse by the fact that he claims to be entertaining while his promos are about as charismatic as Mike Mondo’s.
YOUNG LIONS’ CUP ELIMINATION MATCH #3: Kobald vs. Cameron Matthews vs. Anthony Stone vs. Jivin’ Jimmy- 6/10
FRIGHTMARE vs. OPHIDIAN- 6/10
Had one bad phantom bump in here, but otherwise good.
ICARUS vs. THE MYSTERIOUS & HANDSOME STRANGER- 6.5/10
3.0 & GRAN AKUMA vs. SOLDIER ANT, CombatANT, & DeviANT- 6.75/10
OBARIYON & KODAMA vs. TIM DONST & JAKOB HAMMERMEIER- no rating, GREAT segment.
Donst doesn’t care about the match, leaving Jakob to wrestle it alone, until one of the Batiri taunts him about his lack of hair, after which Donst goes nuts. Reminiscent of Steen & Corino vs. Cabana & Generico at The Big Bang!, which is a good thing.
THE SHARD vs. SUGAR DUNKERTON- 5.25/10
MIKE QUACKENBUSH, JIGSAW, HALLOWICKED, & ULTRAMANTIS BLACK vs. THE YOUNG BUCKS & THE HEART THROBS- 7/10
Fun tag team action
SARA DEL REY PROMO- eh
CHIKARA GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Eddie Kingston(c) vs. Sara Del Rey- 8.5/10
Awesome stuff here. They told a great story with Sara being hungry to win the belt and working over Eddie’s arm. Kingston sold beautifully, but still put enough of a heel edge in to make you really get behind Sara. A great send-off for Sara. It’s great to see that by the end of her indy run, Sara was given a place more in line with her talents at the top of a promotion that isn’t just a women’s promotion.
Overall, this was a good show from CHIKARA, and is a must-buy for fans of Sara Del Rey and intergender wrestling.
